Spectacular show from Shah Rukh Khanby sharmilla ganesan
View AttachmentWhat pain? You wouldn’t have guessed Shah Rukh Khan is healing from a leg injury the way he danced at the Temptation Reloaded concert on Saturday.
Fans of Shah Rukh Khan had plenty to scream about at his recent concert here.
If it was the King Khan that you came to see at the Temptation Reloaded concert last Saturday night at Stadium Merdeka, then there was certainly plenty of him to satisfy.
Despite having recently sustained injuries on the set of his upcoming film Happy New Year, Bollywood star Datuk Shah Rukh Khan was his usual energetic self at the concert, thrilling fans with everything from witty banter to classic dance moves.
Anticipation to see the man take to the stage was at a fever pitch, as the first hour of the show focused instead on bhangra-hip-hop artiste Yo-Yo Honey Singh and Bollywood screen queens Madhuri Dixit and Rani Mukherji.
Shah Rukh’s appearance certainly did not disappoint, as he spectacularly entered the stage amidst strobing lights and dancers holding glittering signs that spelled out “King Khan”. He then jumped straight into a dance medley of some of his biggest hit songs, including Tumse Milke, Chaiyya Chaiyya, Yeh Kali Kali Aankhen and Chammak Challo.
The segment was a real treat for any Shah Rukh fan, as he combined iconic dancing from his movies with his signature cheeky expressions – and for someone healing from a leg injury, those vigorous dance moves were really something!
Perhaps because of his injuries, most of Shah Rukh’s other segments were fairly low-key, with a lot of fan interactions and conversation thrown in. Thanks to the actor’s quick sense of humour and engaging stage presense, however, he had the audience eating out of his hand – no matter if he was romancing a giddy fan onstage or doing the Lungi Dance with his collaborator Yo-Yo Honey Singh.
Complementing the larger than life performances was the great lighting and video projections onstage, which created a fantasy-like setting for the show. Adding to the excitement were a team of talented dancers who provided excellent backing to the main stars.
The rest of the three-and-a-half-hour-long concert, though, was a mixed bag, with some segments feeling rather draggy while others were much too short.
Besides Shah Rukh, the biggest highlights were undoubtedly Madhuri and Rani, both of whom were performing in Malaysia for the first time.
Following Yo-Yo Honey Singh’s infectious set, Rani took the stage by storm with a sexy, hip-shaking medley that had the crowd cheering enthusiastically. Her set included both older and recent dance numbers, such as Nach Baliye, Chalka Chalka Re, Dil Bole Hadippa and Dreamum Wakeupum.
This was followed by an unforgettable performance by the Queen of Dance herself, Madhuri, to some of her most famous songs, including O Re Piya, Atra Baras Ki, Choli Ke Peeche, Aaja Nachle and Dola Re Dola.
A natural onstage, it was a delight to watch Madhuri’s intricate dance steps and expressive movements, with her fans breaking out into cheers every time she reenacted a classic dance sequence.
Hence why it was a little disappointing that the show didn’t include more of these dazzling divas. Their only other appearances were towards the second half of the show, where Shah Rukh performed a classic romantic number with each actress: Are Re Are with Madhuri and Tumhi Dekho Na with Rani.
Meanwhile, the rest of the concert was filled up with performances by Indian singers Arijit Singh and Meiyang Chang. Arijit’s mesmerising vocals were a real treat to hear live, and he performed a selection of his recent hit songs, such as Tum Hi Ho, Phir Le Aaya Dil and Illahi.
Chang (who did a great job hosting the night) is an entertaining performer, and did justice to catchy numbers like Badtameez Dil. Yo-Yo Honey Singh also returned in the second half of the show to perform some of his hip hop hits, such as Brown Rang and Blue Eyes.
To a crowd that was predominantly there to watch their screen idols, however, these performances occasionally seemed to go on too long, and there were grumblings heard for more of Shah Rukh, Madhuri and Rani.
The night ended on a high note, with Shah Rukh, Madhuri and Rani coming together to perform the catchy Deewangi Deewangi song. But rather than the anticipated explosive ending, the number felt a little tame; like the rest of Temptation Reloaded, it left everyone wanting just a little bit more.
