Raju Ban Gaya GentlemenSo, it took me a while to proceed with this, as I have been looking for a subtitled version of Chamatkar, which was the second release. But all I was able to find was a version without subtitles, and I wasn't motivated enough yet, to watch it without subtitles. So, I moved on to the next one. Raju Ban Gaya Gentlemen.
As most of you will know, this movie was actually the first he acted in, though not the first movie to be released. This was the movie with the famous "This is the hero?" moment by Juhi Chawla.
So while watching the movie I kept this in my mind the whole time. Imagining SRK being fresh from Delhi, acting in films, after some television work.
As most of his early movies I have not watched this movie in full length, only bits and pieces and of course the songs. Yeah, I know ... what a fan I am after so many years... huh?
Anyways. I must say, I was not totally impressed by the story. Young small town fella comes to the big city with the dream to become rich - ends up with the wrong people, slowly making him a real jerk who forgets all those who have helped him to get where he wanted to get.
Simple story, a little boring, as the story felt a little too familiar.
However, I was truly impressed by the acting of SRK. He did not seem like a newcomer. His acting style was very advanced and natural. I did not feel him overacting either. Of course there were no so called SRK mannerisms, cause I think they were developed later. It was just a pleasure to watch him perform.
One of my favorite moment was when his shoes were so torn that he couldn't walk properly anymore, and then ran into Juhi.
SRK and Juhi are always great comedy. Juhi has a very theater like quality as an actor. The faces she makes always make me lol.
The songs in the film are also superb.
One of my all time favorite songs is Dil Hai Mera Deewana. The song lyrics fit so well to SRK's own life:
My heart has become crazy
Friends, I'm leaving
My heart has become crazy
Friends, I'm leaving
My destination is far away
But it's important to go
Bye bye friends
The dreams of tomorrow are there in my eyes
My intentions are very big
Friends, don't stop me
My heart is not under my control
My destination is far away
But it's important to go
Bye bye friends
I've started on a journey in my own mood
There are millions of desires in my heart
One day the star of my destiny
Will shine in the blue sky
My destination is far away
But it's important to go
Bye bye friends
It is amazing that this was his first film, and the lyrics of this song were almost prophetic.
Anyways. The film is nice to watch when looking for something light and simple, and some good performances at the same time.
