The Amazing Spider-Man 2 - 8/10
Loved it. I did have a couple of problems with it, but overall I had an awesome time seeing it. Andrew and Emma are just adorable together. Everybody else did a very good job as well. I usually hate 3D, but I found it quite enjoyable this times. The ending though ...I knew what was coming but it still sort of shocked me. The whole movie was a pretty emotional ride.

What were your thoughts about amazing spiderman 1.

What were your thoughts about amazing spiderman 1. I loved the 1st one as well. Actually, I'm not really a huge fan of the Sam Raimi-Triology. I've never really like Tobey as Peter/Spidey and I HATED Kirsten Dunst as Mary Jane. The casting practically ruined these movies for me. And they were cheesy as hell. The only things that Spider-Man 2002 got right was JK Simmons and the score.

Ahh okay. Then I shouldnt get my hopes too high I loved Raimi's first 2 spiderman movies. They were perfectly balanced IMO. Third one was quite awful though

Ahh okay. Then I shouldnt get my hopes too high I loved Raimi's first 2 spiderman movies. They were perfectly balanced IMO. Third one was quite awful though me too. I was only 11 when the first Spiderman came out and I loved it so much. I must have seen it two-three times in theatres. It will always have a special place in my heart because it was my first proper superhero movie. I think Tobey gets too much unnecessary hate personally. His Peter Parker especially is perfect. I can sort of see why people might think his Spiderman is a bit weak, but I never really had a problem with it either. The second movie was also great, though I appreciate it more now then I did at teh time, I think I understand more about what Peter's going through. And it has seriously one of the most amazing actions scenes in all superhero movies-the doc oc and spidey train fight. I think people forget the Spiderman movies were very well received at the time. And in a way (along with X-men) responsible for restarting this superhero craze. They were incredibly good movies. It's just the third one which really sucked and all of a sudden everyone seems to hate the whole series. I also didn't like The Amazing Spiderman much, it was a decent movie, but it was pretty much exactly the same as the first Spiderman except got rid of all teh great things. Honestly, I think the only reason people like it is because of Andrew Garfield and Emma (forget her last name), who I do admit both did a good job and had better chemistry than Toby/Kirsten did. But story wise, there was absolutely nothing special about it. And even actions scenes were crap compared to originals which is surprising given they should be better due to better technology now. That last sequence especially with the cranes, was sooo cheesy and just downright awful. ANd don't even get me started on PEter constantly taking his mask off. I guess they just have to show Andrew's pretty face. However, having said that, i would be willing to give this second one a try becasue at least it seems to be doing something different, not just copying Raimi's spiderman.

riverpanthera - You covered every single thought of mine regarding the Spiderman series in that post Just to add on. I know people dislike Kirsten Dunst and say that she dint have any chemistry with Toby. I also don't know much about comic books as I never read them (did watch the cartoons though). But despite all this I think Spiderman 1 and 2 got the love angle covered much better than the Amazing Spiderman. IMO Spiderman is incomplete without a scarlet-haired-MJ calling him out to save her

The Amazing Spider Man 2 - 8/10
Watched it today. I liked it. It was action-packed, humorous and emotional in equal measure. The ending was really good. The villains could have been more threatening though.

I'd rate the first one 7.5/10.

wow the Amazing Spiderman is getting hammered by critics everywhere. 56% on rotten tomatoes.
Now I don't always go by rotten tomatoes as I have sometimes disagreed (eg man of steel which I still liked also had 56%), but in this case, considering I didn't even care much for the first, I think I will be skipping a theatre watch, might check out on dvd/download later.
Transcendence has gotten even worse score- 19% only, and that was a movie I was actually looking forward to as trailers seemed interesting. Guess will be skipping it too. Anyone here seen it?

The Amazing Spiderman 2 - 7.5/10 If I had to stick to a once sentence review I would say - "Chick flick with some action in the first half, and Superhero movie still with plenty of feels in the second half" The good- Performances: Garfield and Emma were great together, and their track really kept this movie going while other stupid stuff happened. Sally Field was amazing in her two main scenes. - Spiderman: The thrill you get from seeing spidey swinging and webbing his way through Manhattan is unmatched by any other superhero really. And its even better in IMAX - Electro: He was very well done (visually) with the electricity running through his veins - Action: Fun and visually stunning - Chick Flick: The feeling parts work very well The bad- Creativity: the thing that has had Marvel going so well is their ability to stay creative and keep the content fresh despite them all following the same good v/s evil path. Sony on the other hand has made no efforts on this front ever since Spiderman2. - Villains: No effort spent on character development and backstories. Bad sh8T happens to good guys, they suddenly become super-villains. Done. No proper explanation given. Compare that to Captain America 2 which excels on this front The "bad"s might be fewer, but they pull the movie down considerably. Overall fun for the visual affects and the feels, but nothing new.

abhijackough turning a superhero movie into chick flick is quite criminal I think. Yeah. Apparently people are loving the emotional parts. I liked it too. But I think the movie messed up on its priorities.

Finally watched Spiderman tonight! It was good, but I think I liked the first one better. I liked the comedic-fun feel of the first one. The second one is more dramatic and had better action. So I guess liking the first or second better depends on your preference in genre. I love Andrew Garfield as Spiderman though!

So I guess liking the first or second better depends on your preference in genre. I love Andrew Garfield as Spiderman though! I partially agree with you on that. But disagree too. The genre is still comic-book superhero, not chick-flick In the second one, half the time spidey is crying about his aching heart instead of worrying about saving the world. I still like it better than the first one though, which was extremely similar to Raimi's Spiderman and had nothing new.
But I agree about Garfield making a good Spiderman. Although I love Tobey's Peter Parker initially. You feel more for him because he is so down on his luck most of the time
