Omg, yusuf was looking good and gets run out. So disappointing. kkr's running between the wickets leaves a lot to be desired...

Good score. Could have been more if Yusuf didn't get himself out. Manish hasn't been going too great recently so bringing Tendo in at no.3 is an option or promoting Yusuf and Shakib.

Lovely from Narine. But AB de Villiers is in. It's not impossible for Yuvraj and ABD to chase down 100 from 40 if they get going.

As I said before the start of the innings Narine will go for wickets. He has been economical too. That's icing on the cake. He has one more over to go. Hopefully he will get more. Shakib too, which is an icing on the cake to his good form with the bat.

From his 4 wickets, Narine's got Kohli, Yuvraj and ABD all out. Brilliant.

People who doubted the team were quite right to be honest Take karan as an example. He kept going on and on about how Kallis was a misfit in the team despite his accomplishments. And KKR have played like champs without Kallis. The top order looks very settled.

I haven't even seen Kallis in the dugout... did he get benched, or had to go back to South Africa?

Amazing performance from Sunil Narine again. I cannot believe they gave the MoM award to Uthappa. For all his batting, Narine just ripped the heart out of a very potent RCB middle order with the major wickets of Yuvraj, ABD and Kohli. That was what sealed the match for us. Into the play-offs we go and now to try and finish second place so we get two shots at the finals. Brilliant performance from KKR. So proud to be a fan.

Exactly. Its about fielding a balanced team and not forcing certain players into the playing XI just because of their stature or past glory (read Kallis and Pathan). The only justification for Pathan's inclusion in the starting XI is there are no other finishers in the team.
Plus you could clearly see by the way KKR were batting in the first half of the tournament, that the batsmen lacked a clear agenda on who does what. It was also magnified by the fact that Gambhir, Pathan, Robbie were not scoring. Something has definitely changed on the management side. They took some brave decisions and made the right changes.

And KKR have played like champs without Kallis. The top order looks very settled. I always said right from the auctions that it's a balanced team with right amount of batsman, bowler and all-rounder. You can check archives and the auction thread, you can see who wrote what during and right after auctions. It's not about a single person be it Kallis or Gambhir or Uthappa or even Surya, else RCB would have won the tournament at the auctions itself. I said that as well. But that's a different point to whether Kallis should or shouldn't be in the team over Shakib (or another player).

I think you are taking it personally No one is questioning what you said about the team's balance or the auction. I just responded to the "take that, all those who were criticising the team". Just because the team is doing well doesn't meant they did not screw up in the first half of the tournament. Infact, the effective changes to the lineup in the second half prove that all those who criticised the team and the performance were not wrong at all.

That's the point again. You don't come into the tournament and start experimenting with combinations. These things need to be sorted out before hand. That is a clear failure on part of the team management. No settled team would shuffle the batting around the way
Regarding what they screwed up ? Sometimes the results are not reflective enough. Just because Kallis clicked in the first two games doesn't mean he was the right fit. You cant play him in the middle order because he takes a while to accelerate. So they had to play him as an opener, which forced Utthappa to play as a middle order batsman which he was terrible at. We had Pathan as the finisher who has one solitary 50+ score over 3-4 seasons ? Any cricket follower can tell that these decisions were silly at best. It was like they were hoping that somehow, suddenly Pathan will come into form and start doing what he did for Rajasthan in the first season.
Anyways, I am done. I think I have stated the above half a dozen times now LOL.

It's getting bad, but you are wrong when you say a team has to come with a settled team simply because it was a fresh auction and KKR had maximum new players as they retained only few players. Since it's a new mix of players, they are bound to experiment. RCB came with a prepared line up. What happened to them. This time I am really done. LOL Fair enough I appreciate your immovable faith in the team management

Jacques Kallis sacrificed his place in KKR’s playing XI in IPL 2014, says Vijay DahiyaBy Press Trust of India May 21, 2014, 10:23 pm Jacques Kallis apparently sacrificed his place in KKR’s playing XI on few occasions this season © PTI Kolkata: May 21, 2014 It might have been surprising to see veteran all-rounder Jacques Kallis out of the playing XI in some IPL 2014 games but Kolkata Knight Riders on Wednesday said the South African great was doing it for the interest of the team. A vital cog in Kolkata’s scheme of things, Kallis has missed last three matches in a row and four in total and their assistant coach Vijay Dahiya said he himself had opted out to make a winning combination. “He’s a champion, a legend of the game. It’s a very very difficult call but credit must be given to Kallis for that as well. You have a couple of players, support staff, captain and vice captain sitting together while picking up a playing XI. He’s part of that. “On a couple of occasions he himself has said on this particular wicket the other guy would be more useful. He has opted out in a couple of games saying that this combination would be better for the team,” Dahiya told reporters on the eve of their match against Royal Challengers Bangalore in Kolkata. The 2012 champions have bounced back from a four-match losing streak to post five wins on the trot and Dahiya said it’s the self belief and the team environment that had played a crucial role. “The kind of environment we have in the team is amazing. “We had a couple of close games, we knew we were there. If we can get hold of a couple of key overs we can get hold of that. “The self belief has been fantastic and the environment created by the coach is very good.” “In last couple of years, we have an open policy. Anybody can come in and give suggestions on and off the field. That speaks about the team. It’s a very plus point with the kind of environment that we have.” Bangalore boast of an attacking batting line-up in Virat Kohli, Chris Gayle AB de Villiers and Dahiya said it would be about sticking to their plan and stay focussed. “We always plan, I would be lying if I say we don’t plan for a player. It’s about sticking to the plan. There’s no special plan. They have not only AB de Villiers and Yuvraj Singh, there’s Virat Kohli then you cannot leave aside Chris Gayle. How can you not count him. They are a very very good side. It’s very important for us to stay focussed.” Asked about the surprise inclusion of Pat Cummins in place of Morne Morkel, Dahiya said: “It’s important to keep checking your bench strength as well. Cummins was doing well at the nets.” www.cricketcountry.com/news/jacques-kallis-sacrificed-his-place-in-kkrs-playing-xi-in-ipl-2014-says-vijay-dahiya-139824

Basically Kallis himself felt that his inclusion was misbalancing KKR's batting Something that has been emphasized here quite a bit
