Match preview: www.espncricinfo.com/indian-premier-league-2014/content/story/747115.htmlWith a place in the playoffs already secured, we're playing for a top 2 place in what is our last game of the league stage. Ideally, for us, CSK lose against RCB and leave us needing only a win, by any margin, to secure 2nd place. If CSK win then we're going to need to defeat SRH by a significant margin to overtake CSK on NRR. Manish Pandey hasn't been performing too great off late so it might be worth a try bringing in Pathan or Shakib at no.3 or even Tendo since he hasn't faced many balls. And please, no silly running between the wickets this time.

I get a feeling CSK will beat RCB most likely as RCB won't be as motiviated after knowing they're already out, while CSK will really want to win after losing several in a row. Good thing is we're playing second, so we'll know exactly what we need to do.

KKR win the toss and will bowl first. Need to chase down whatever they make in 15.2 overs to finish in 2nd place.
Mohandas Menon @mohanstatsman 28m KKR now has to win by 40 runs or by 28 balls to spare to go ahead of CSK on NRR and make it to the 2nd spot in #IPL 2014
Mohandas Menon @mohanstatsman 24m If KKR bats 2nd can reach target with 25 balls to spare if they can manage to hit a six with scores level!

Watching it .. glancing at it rather This season's IPL hasnt been as much fun for me. Probably due to the lack of the Indian stalwarts Sachin and Dravid But good comeback by KKR

Two dropped catches - Narine and Pathan. Pathetic

Need 161 runs in 15.2 overs (92 balls) to finish in 2nd place. Very difficult but not impossible. Going to need to go all out from the start and hope one of Pathan or Shakib plays a blinder.

back in the day i used to watch all their matches! mostly the ones held in south africa. i had learnt how cricket "works" and was very proud of that achievement, but now i have nooooo idea what it's all about, somehow i've forgotten it all lol. so i'd love to watch but i just have no clue anymore

^ Start watching it again, I'm sure you'll pick up on it very quickly.
omg, the one match where Tendo had a chance to bat for a good amount of time, he gets run-out - Yusuf might be to blame once again for not running at all. These constant dropped catches and run-outs (regardless of us winning despite them) are saddening.

Whoa fastest fifty in IPL history by Yusuf!!! And 26 runs in an over off the best bowler in the world Dale Steyn. SRK must love it 'cos he was probably the reason Yusuf was retained.

^ Looks like it, the batting is getting better with each game. Though we have been a bit sloppy with the ball and catching at times in these last two games, so need to fix that up.

gosh that was incredible to watch and I can't believe it was Pathan that was doing it. He certainly has come back in form last few games. Though he did get very lucky here with two dropped catches and run out, but still the way he was hitting it was amazing. He did exactly what we needed today.

not related exactly but holy moly did anyone see corey anderson's innings yesterday. WE thought what KKR and Yusuf did was incredible and impossible to beat, but MI managed to surpass even that. Unbelievable match. IPl does strange things for sure.
And RR sure got a taste of what it feels like to have victory snatched from you. They did it twice to us lol, so I must say I feel some guilty pleasure seeing it happen to them haha.

Yeah what they had to chase was much tougher, though Yusuf's innings was more destructive (and record breaking) compared to Anderson's. But there's quite a few people on social media calling yesterday's match fixed, and whilst I hope not, I have my doubts as well. RR's bowling was ridiculous as was them suspiciously dropping key players in their last few games.

People on social media are hardly to be worried about. Couch critics looking to stir things up just to get attention. If yesterday's match was fixed, then there is no reason why KKR's match wasn't fixed either. So many dropped catches and run outs.
I personally don't believe it was fixed for 2 reasons: 1. I trust the players that I admire. There maybe a few bad apples, but that doesn't mean we start questioning everyone's integrity (Chak De India anyone ??)
2. It is very difficult to "script" such extreme results because you would need around a dozen players to be involved in it. I don't think class acts like Watson, Faulkner, etc would compromise their team on purpose for some dollars.

I totally agree as well. I think in fact if a match is indeed fixed, it wont' be so weird lol. It would appear more normal. But yeah I also definitely agree about trusting the players. I think proper match fixing these days is veyr unlikely. You might get some spot fixing but full matches especially at such crucial stages, I highly doubt it. Plus these players are already getting paid so much money, I dont' think they would want to lose the tropy for a few more.

RR's bowling was ridiculous as was them suspiciously dropping key players in their last few games. Yusuf may have had a higher run rate adn broken records on paper, but I think Anderson's was much better personally for a couple of reasons. First he didn't get dropped twice and almost run out like Yusuf did. And he had a lot more pressure on him to score- MI were playing just to stay in the tournament and chasing an incredibly high score-it was very close to impossible, while KKR were only fighting for second place and more reachable target. And he had the higher score as well. So I dont' think Yusuf simply having a better run rate is enough.

Depends on how you look at it. Anderson's innings was more vital to his team since they were playing to stay in the competition but for me Yusuf played a more destructive innings and was more entertaining to watch.

For me, Yusuf's knock was better because of the bowling attack he had to contend with. Karn Sharma bowled very well and he had to take on the premier fast bowler in the world - Dale Steyn. Look at the attack Anderson had to face and don't even consider the fact that most of these bowlers bowled pretty badly that day - Kulkarni, Watson, Cooper... That RR bowling effort was the worst I have seen in the IPL this year and I have watched quite a few games - I don't think they bowled even one yorker in the last 5 overs combined. No wonder Dravid was pi$$ed.
