BREAKING: Salman Khan books Eid 2019 for his next film Bharat ByBollywood Hungama News NetworkOct 24, 2017 - 9:42 am IST After collaborating with his brother-in-law Atul Agnihotri for films like Bodyguard and Hello among others, Salman Khan is all set to join hands with him once again. There have been several speculations about their forthcoming film in the past but now it has been confirmed that the two of them are indeed coming together for a film titled Bharat. Furthermore, while Atul Agnihotri is more than happy to be the producer, Bharat will be directed by Ali Abbas Zafar. Interestingly, the filmmaker is currently directing Salman Khan for the much anticipated Tiger Zinda Hai alongside Katrina Kaif. Talking about Bharat, the film is an official adaptation of the Korean film Ode To My Father [Gukjesijang] which traces the 60 year journey of a man who vows to protect his family as a child and is set at the backdrop of Korean War. On the other hand, Atul has asserted that Bharat will be adapted as per the Indian sensibilities and the journey of the protagonist will begin from 1947 to 2000. He also added that this film is about a man and a nation who share the same name, Bharat. Atul Agnihotri came across the original [Korean film] during Berlin Film Festival and the journey inspired him to take up the subject. Though it is a just an inspiration, the filmmaker maintained that he wanted to buy the rights of the film and hence decided to go ahead with the same. But before taking the step, he thought of having a discussion with his father-in-law, the popular writer Salim Khan, who too supported him in his decision. As for the film itself, Atul revealed that Bharat would require elaborate sets and will be extensively shot not just in Punjab and Delhi or within India but also in Abu Dhabi and Spain. It is crucial for producers to have Salman Khan’s release during Eid which is also his fan base’s preferred choice, hence Bharat is expected to release during Eid 2019. www.bollywoodhungama.com/news/bollywood/breaking-salman-khan-books-eid-2019-next-film-bharat/

EXCLUSIVE! Jackie Shroff to play Salman Khan’s FATHER; Priyanka Chopra to play Salman’s wife in BHARAT! By Upala KBR Jul 23, 2018 - 9:17 am IST After eight years later, Jackie Shroff and Salman Khan will come together in Ali Abbas Zafar’s Bharat. The last time both were seen together was in Veer: An Epic Love Story Of A Warrior (2010). However, unlike their last film, where they clashed with each other, in Bharat, Jackie will play Salman’s father and Priyanka Chopra who has been signed to play the female lead will play Salman’s wife. Like Salman, as they become older in the film, she too will sport five different looks in the movie with the help of prosthetics. Says a trade source, “The role of Salman’s father may not be a big one but it’s pivotal to the film and shapes Salman’s character and who he becomes later. It was Salman who wanted Jackie to play this powerful role. It starts in 1947 when the Partition takes place and thousands of families are separated and ends in 2000. The movie is the journey of a country and also a person, both of whom go by the name of Bharat. Ode To My Father begins with the Hungnam Evacuation in 1950 when many families got separated in Korea and the father tells his son Yoon Deok-soo, ‘If I don’t come you are the head of the family that means whatever happens you put the family first. Now, that you are the head of the family, look after them well.’ Jackie plays Salman’s father and his words remain with the young boy (Salman) right till the end. They get separated during the Partition in Bharat but his father’s words and desire to reunite with him remains right till the end.” While the film is an official adaptation of the South Korean drama film, Ode to My Father (2014), Bharat has been adapted to Indian audiences with certain changes. But the source adds, “Like Ode To My Father, which spans over many years, Bharat’s story will span over a period of 50 years and that’s why we will see Salman Khan sporting five different looks in the movie – as a young boy who witnesses the Partition to the current years when he is an old man. As the firstborn, Bharat becomes his family’s breadwinner from an early age, doing all manner of odd jobs to support the family. The film begins from a modern day elderly couple (Salman and Priyanka) reminiscing about their past and how they fell in love and got married. So we will get to see a very young Priyanka Chopra and Salman Khan and old ones too. There are flashbacks to various phases of time. Like Ode To My Father which depicted Korean history from the 1950s till the recent times, Bharat too will highlight various important events of Indian history.” Ali Abbas Zafar’s Bharat began shoot on Sunday at Mumbai’s Filmistan Studios resembling a circus tent with Disha Patani and Salman Khan. The film will have Salman playing a stunt motorcyclist while Disha will be a trapeze artiste. Produced by Atul Agnihotri, Bharat will be filmed in Abu Dhabi, Spain, Malta, Punjab and Delhi. www.bollywoodhungama.com/news/bollywood/exclusive-jackie-shroff-play-salman-khans-father-priyanka-chopra-play-salmans-wife-bharat/

Bharat: Here’s How Katrina Kaif Reacted After Reading The Script Of This Salman Khan Film Before Katrina, actress Priyanka Chopra was cast in the film, which is an official adaptation of a 2014 South Korean film Ode To My Father. By Koimoi.com Team - August 17, 2018 Be it Sultan, Gunday or Tiger Zinda Hai, Ali Abbas Zafar has never failed to strike a chord with the audience as his films always have a dash of human touch to it. The director says it is because he tries to bring his real-life experiences and emotions in every movie he does. His next is Bharat starring Salman Khan, Katrina Kaif, Disha Patani, Sunil Grover and many others. “I never went to a film school to study about movies. Most of my education has been from my real-life experiences. So, I try and bring my real-life emotions and experiences in my films,” Zafar told IANS over phone from Mumbai. The 36-year-old filmmaker, who is currently shooting for his upcoming Salman Khan-starrer in Malta, says he purposely adds a sprinkle of emotions to his movies. “Obviously as humans, we are very emotional people. So, somewhere it is a conscious touch that a film needs to work emotionally for an audience and for a filmmaker when it goes out. That has been the practice for me from the first one,” Zafar said. For his new film, Zafar is reuniting with his Tiger Zinda Hai cast Salman and actress Katrina Kaif. Before Katrina, actress Priyanka Chopra was cast in the film, which is an official adaptation of a 2014 South Korean film Ode To My Father. In July, Zafar tweeted that Priyanka was no longer a part of his upcoming movie. He said the reason was “very special” and that she informed in the “nick of time about her decision”. Asked if he had to tweak the script for Katrina, he said: “Whenever we do films, we cast the film and obviously alterations are made once an actor has been cast. Because this happened in such a short span of time, I just sent the script to Katrina and said, ‘You read it and you react as an audience’. When she read it, she called me back she said, ‘Nothing to say apart from I want to do a part’.” Zafar was glad Katrina reacted positively to the script. The film also stars Disha Patani and Sunil Grover. About Disha, he said: “When the film comes out, you will understand why all these actors are in the film and what their roles are. I have shot with Disha and she is fabulous. The kind of hard work she has put and the energy she brings on to the set we are happy with that.” www.koimoi.com/bollywood-news/bharat-heres-how-katrina-kaif-reacted-after-reading-the-script-of-this-salman-khan-film/

Bajrangi Baijaan is his best movie but Sultan was pretty enjoyable as well. This is made by the same director (Ali Abbas Zafar) so I have some hopes here. Salman only really failed last year (2017 had the Tubelight flop but he made up for it asap with TZH), his situation was never serious and I thought the media circlejerk around the end of all 3 Khans was pretty premature

I'm worried about the movie because of Katrina, hopefully it's more of a Zero esque performance than how she was in her previous movies with Salman (awful)

Katrina was literally the best thing about Tiger Zinda Hai. Disappointing they didnt show her in the teaser. No doubt she looked good in that movie but I didn't see a good performance. Obviously not from Salman either, it was just a dumb masala movie so no one tried. Here considering the story they are adapting, she will need to show some real acting skills which rarely happens. Like imagine if she was the female lead in Sultan..lol.

Bharat Movie Review Bharat Movie Rating 4.5/5 Review by Bollywood Hungama News Network 5 June 2019 8:34 am IST In Bollywood, a film that covers an entire lifespan of a character is very rare and is only seen in biopics. Hollywood has done that quite often in fictional films but in our cinema, it has rarely been witnessed. Blockbuster director Ali Abbas Zafar, after delivering two Rs. 300 crore grossers, is now back with BHARAT. It stars Salman Khan in the lead and he’ll be seen in various avatars as he ages through the film. The looks of the superstar has been appreciated but will these praises be there for the film as well? Will BHARAT work despite being such an atypical entertainer? Let’s analyse. BHARAT is about the journey of a man and a nation together. The story begins in 1947 in Mirpur village near Lahore. Bharat (Salman Khan) is a kid and his father Gautam Kumar (Jackie Shroff) dotes on him. This is the time of Partition and Bharat and his family are compelled to leave for India. At the railway station, Bharat is climbing on top of the train with his sister Gudiya (Barbiee Sharma) when she falls down on the station. Gautam has already managed to safely climb atop the train but he goes down to search Gudiya. But before that, he gives his watch to Bharat and assures him that he'll be back. He also tells him to go with his mother Janki (Sonali Kulkarni), brother and sister to Gautam's sister Jamuna (Ayesha Raza Mishra)'s shop, Hind Ration Store in Delhi. Bharat and his family cross over to India and thus go to the ration shop as asked by Gautam. They are quite poor and Bharat starts doing odd jobs. Bharat soon grows up as a dashing young man (Salman Khan) and he and his childhood friend Vilayati (Sunil Grover) join a circus. Here he comes across the sizzling Radha (Disha Patani). Both Bharat and Radha get into a relationship while also doing death defying stunts. However when Bharat realises his stunts might be influencing youngsters to do the same without proper training, he quits the circus. He goes to employment exchange where he meets Kumud (Katrina Kaif) and gets smitten by her. Bharat and Vilayati are sent to Middle East to work in the oil fields. The money is good but not as much as he expected to earn. Hence, Bharat decides to work in the dangerous underground mines. Kumud who is now in love with Bharat stops him from taking up the project since she's aware that the risk is quite high. Bharat however still takes up the work. All is well at first but 21 days later, an explosion takes place in the underground mine. It seems near impossible for Bharat and his other colleagues to come out alive. What happens next forms the rest of the film. BHARAT is based on the 2014 Korean flick Ode To My Father (directed by Yoon Je-kyoon; written by Park Su-jin). The story has been Indianized very well and the important events of post-Independence India like the death of Jawaharlal Nehru, rise of unemployment, the 1983 Cricket World Cup final, era of liberalisation and globalisation, emerging trend of redevelopment etc are well inserted in the narrative. Ali Abbas Zafar and Varun V Sharma’s screenplay is effective and keeps viewers engaged from start to finish. The emotional sequences especially are quite well written. Ali Abbas Zafar and Varun V Sharma’s dialogues are simple and sharp, and even quite funny at places. Ali Abbas Zafar’s direction is topnotch. Unlike his previous films, this film is in a different zone but Ali handles it all like a pro. The film changes tracks every 15-20 minutes and to handle such a film is not a cakewalk. For instance, after the tragic Partition scene, the film gets a bit comic and even quite colourful in the circus sequence. The switch however happens quite seamlessly and this can be seen throughout the film. On the flipside however, the humour is forced in a few scenes and doesn’t make the desired impact. Also, the National Anthem scene seems unwarranted for and could have been written in a better way. BHARAT begins very well, showing the 70-year-old Bharat and his life in Delhi. One might feel that the makers perhaps have shown too much at this point. But one need not worry because there’s a lot that the principal character goes through in his life and it slowly gets unveiled. The childhood portion is moving while the circus scenes are vibrant and entertaining. The real fun however begins once Bharat meets Kumud and later when he starts working in the Middle East. Till this point, there hasn’t been much conflict in the tale. But it finally enters the narrative once Bharat and his teammates get trapped. The manner in which the film goes on a high at this point is seen to be believed. The second half gets better thankfully. The scenes of the ship are quite good and watch out for how the humour is so well infused in the sequence where the pirates attack the vessel! The best however is reserved for the pre-climax. An interesting development takes place here and it’ll surely bring tears to the eyes of viewers, a la BAJRANGI BHAIJAAN [2015]. The film ends on a justified note. Salman Khan as expected rocks the show. He is dashing and entertaining in each and every avatar. And he seems convincing in all these makeovers. In the circus scene, he’s supposed to be below 30 years ago and it comes out just right. Even as an old man, he fits the part and makes subtle changes in his speech, body language etc. His fans are surely in for a treat! Katrina Kaif looks ravishing and performance wise, she is first rate. She gets to essay a very well-written part and she does justice to it. Her conversation with Salman while munching on shawarma is quite memorable. Sunil Grover gets a lot of screen time and is almost like the second lead of the film. And he makes good use of the opportunity and would surely be appreciated. Jackie Shroff’s screen time is very limited but he has a crucial part and he makes his presence felt. Disha Patani is sizzling and has a fine screen presence. Tabu (Meher) has a powerful cameo. Aasif Sheikh (Mehek’s husband) stands out with his characterization and humour. The kid actors - Barbiee Sharma, Kabir Sajid (young Bharat), Aaryan Prajapati (young Vilayati) and Matin Rey Tangu (young Jimmy) are adorable. Nora Fatehi (Sussan) looks quite hot but is wasted. Sonali Kulkarni, Kashmira Irani (Mehek), Kumud Kumar Mishra (Keemat), Ayesha Raza Mishra, Shashank Arora (Chhote), Rajiv Gupta (Gulati) and Ivan Rodrigues (Gupta) are decent. Meiyang Chang is hardly there but his look is quite badass. Vishal-Shekhar's music is good but could have been better. 'Slow Motion' is the top song of the lot followed by 'Chashni'. 'Aithey Aa' is well choreographed. 'Zinda' is exhilarating. 'Tupreya', 'Aaya Na Tu' and 'Thap Thap' are okay. Julius Packiam's background score is better and exhilarating, especially in the emotional scenes. Vaibhavi Merchant and Adil Shaikh's choreography is appealing, especially in 'Slow Motion' and 'Aithey Aa'. Marcin Laskawiec's cinematography is captivating and some scenes are very well captured. Rajnish Hedao's production design is quite rich. Ashley Rebello, Alvira Khan Agnihotri, Veera Kapur Ee and Lolveen Bains's costumes are authentic and also glamorous. The ones worn by Katrina Kaif and Disha Patani stand out. SeaYoung Oh, Parvez Shaikh and Dave Judge's action is not too gory and is appropriate. Rameshwar Bhagat's editing falters in a few places but overall, it’s commendable, considerable the expansive storyline. On the whole, BHARAT is a super-entertainer with emotions as its strong USP and Salman Khan like never before. The superb combination of Salman Khan, emotions and the release period [Eid] will ensure fireworks at the ticket windows. At the box office, it will fetch bumper profits for all concerned. www.bollywoodhungama.com/movie/bharat/critic-review/

Bharat Set For Second Highest First Day Of All Time Wednesday 05 June 2019 11.15 IST Box Office India Trade Network Bharat is set for huge first day collection of around 43-45 crore nett as per early estimates which would be the second highest collection of all time for a Hindi film after Thugs Of Hindostan. The big cricket match may have affected a collections a little but its no major dent. It will also be the highest opening day collection ever for a Salman Khan starrer beating the numbers of Prem Ratan Dhan Payo though it will have to go towards the higher end of the range to go past the GROSS numbers of Prem Ratan Dhan Payo. The huge star power of Salman Khan is still fully intact as this film is not in the mold of a Tiger Zinda Hai or Thugs of Hindostan where the action gives it that extra boost. The film is more of emotional human drama and to be at such high numbers on day one is a credit to the star power. The numbers are huge all over though its Hindi markets which are near records levels and may even hit all time records. The collections of some cities from Gujarat, CI and UP coming in are the highest ever. The single screen numbers are extraordinary all over despite the film not holding as much appeal for them as the multiplexes. But thats where the pull of the star comes into play. boxofficeindia.com/report-details.php?articleid=5077

Bharat Collects Well On Day Two Friday 07 June 2019 11.30 IST Box Office India Trade Network Bharat dropped around 30% post the big Eid Holiday but still had good collections in the 30 crore nett range. This takes the collections of the film to around 72 crore nett over the first two days which is a big total. The film was helped by Bassi Eid as many circuits held up very strongly be it CPCI, Bihar or Delhi / UP. The latter collected 7.25 crore nett which is one of the higher than most other biggies have collected on the first day. The normal drop post Eid is around 25% and this film has dropped a little higher than normal but it was also coming of higher opening numbers then previous Eids. The collections will be a mixed back over the next few days as some areas will drop as they coming of Eid and then city multiplexes may make ground over the weekend. East Punjab which has no Eid affect after the first day saw a 47% drop on a working Thursday which is probably normal coming off a big holiday. The trend here will be interesting over the next two days as its real value and if this circuit goes back up over the weekend then the film is likely to do very well. The collections of Bharat over the first two days are as follow Wednesday - 41,75,00,000 apprx Thursday - 30,00,00,000 apprx TOTAL - 71,75,00,000 apprx The drops on day two ranged from 47% in the East Punjab was the biggest while in UP and Bihar it was as little as 15%. boxofficeindia.com/report-details.php?articleid=5082

Bharat Third Day Early Estimate Saturday 08 June 00.00 IST Box Office India Trade Network Bharat has seen a drop of around 25% on its third day as it collects in the 22-24 crore nett range which takes the first three day total to 95 crore nett. The drop is normal for the third day after Eid but that drop on the second day was probably 5-7% more than it should have bean which has meant the film has not hit the 100 crore nett for over the three day weekend. There are many places coming of the Eid holidays so the the collections slowly got normal levels. There is still a Eid holiday boost in these numbers as UP and Bihar remain at high levels. The plus is that East Punjab which has no Eid affect after the national holiday has stabilized and cities like Chandagarh and Ludhiana are showing 10-12% drops after the 45-50% drop on day two. It will be a mixed bag on Saturday as well with centres in UP and Bihar coming off the holiday period and these places will drop more. It will be about East Punjab now going upwards on Saturday which will be the key. If this circuit shows a good upward trajectory then on Sunday it will mean solid growth all over the country as it will be back to a normal Sunday playing field. boxofficeindia.com/report-details.php?articleid=5085

Bharat Box Office Day 3: Has An Expected Drop On Friday, Waits To Enter 100 Crore Club There would be more as the numbers are expected to rise all over again today and tomorrow. By Joginder Tuteja -June 8, 2019 Bharat Box Office Day 3: A biggie like Bharat is expected to enter the 100 Crore Club in first three days. Moreover with the kind of stupendous start that it took on Eid with 42.30 crores coming in, it seemed quite obvious that Salman Khan would hit yet another century in three days flat. However, there was a drop on Thursday (31 crores), albeit the numbers were still quite good and on expected lines, and now Friday has brought in 22.20 crores. As a result, the collections of this Ali Abbas Zafar directed film currently stand at 95.50 crores. Of course a 100 crores number in quick time has its own charm but still the distance that the Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif starrer has covered so far is quite good. There are hardly any films this year that have managed a sum like this in their lifetime and Bharat is expected to score at least the double of that in its lifetime run. Moreover, these are also the best three day collections for a Hindi film this year. There would be more as the numbers are expected to rise all over again today and tomorrow. It is the magnitude of the jump though that would decide the kind of distance that the film eventually covers. If it gets into the 30 crores range again today, it would be really fantastic as it would convey loud and clear that the film has been accepted well. For now, it is a wait and watch scenario. Note: All collections as per production and distribution sources www.koimoi.com/box-office/bharat-box-office-day-3-has-an-expected-drop-on-friday-waits-to-enter-100-crore-club/

Bharat Set To Emerge A Winner Saturday 08 June 2019 22.30 IST Box Office India Trade Network Bharat is back on track on Saturday after collections going down for two days. The film will show growth in the range of 20-25% and collect in the 25-26 crore nett. There are some places that have fallen but that is because they are coming off the Eid phase but this will level out in the course of time. The important factor is that a circuit like East Punjab with no Eid affect is up 40-50% and metros Mumbai city, Pune and Bangalore where Eid is also for two days only as far as collections are concerned are showing bigger gains than the all India number. It was very important for the film to show an upward trajectory in these places as this means there is some appreciation for the film. The last year has seen films not recovering from the downward slide but Bharat has recovered very well in circuits where it was a normal Friday. The four day business of the film will be around 118 crore nett plus and it will emerge a HIT / SUPER HIT film depending on the holds on Monday and next week. The film has not found all round appreciation but that was clear from the second day drop but the bigger cities have liked the film enough and the multiplex business should take the film forward in the long run. The business may be lesser in smaller centers in the long run but the star pull and Eid has meant numbers in mass circuits are already very healthy. boxofficeindia.com/report-details.php?articleid=5089

Bharat Shows Good Jump On Saturday Sunday 09 June 2019 10.30 IST Box Office India Trade Network Bharat did very well on Saturday at the box office as it collected 25 crore nett on Saturday and showed solid growth of 20% even though some centres were coming off the Eid period and showed drops in collections. It was very important for the film to have an upward trajectory on Saturday and at multiplexes it was very good growth in all the big cities. The collections of the film are 118 crore nett in four days and it would be looking at a weekend around the 150 crore nett mark but there is a big cricket match which could leave it towards the 145 crore nett mark. Also the appreciation in mass is less than the bigger centers but mass centers have been strong over Eid so may not show the normal big Sunday growth. Wherever the final extended weekend lands it will be a big number and with Saturday going up the film has found some appreciation, it may not be universal but if the film had no appreciation then the collections would have continued the downward slide on Saturday or remained flat. The collections of Bharat over the first three days are as follow Wednesday - 41,75,00,000 apprx Thursday - 30,00,00,000 apprx Friday - 21,25,00,000 apprx Saturday - 25,00,00,000 apprx TOTAL - 118,25,00,000 apprx The four day numbers ensure Bharat is a success and it is on course to be a HIT or maybe even better depending on how well it can hold over the next ten days or so. boxofficeindia.com/report-details.php?articleid=5090
