The Anushkas,Deepikas,Shraddhas and The Katrinas of these world Too wooden and artificial I think Deepika is pretty good and has improved imho but I agree on the rest. Anushka has always been overrated and lately even more lacking, Katrina has delivered barely a good performance after 13+ years in the industry (doesn't deserve to still get so many female lead roles, better actresses were shafted sooner). Shraddha is very bland and to me Alia seems forced. 90's-2000's actresses were overall much better.

Juhi, Kajol, Rani from couple of decades back
From the current crop Alia is my favorite by a mile - amazing talent. Only actress who can pull me to the theaters from the current crop.
I Like Anushka too - she has given a few amazing performances amidst the fluff of chirpy-bubbly roles [NH10, Pari, ADHM].
Deepika is a hit and miss for me. She has improved a lot since OSO, but i find her voice very bland and her acting very monotonous
Tapasee was very impressive in Pink and Mulk. I heard she was quite good in Soorma and Manmarziyaan too. Someone to watch out for I think

I cannot pick them out by the decade, because I simply don't know enough about their works to be able to do that. Misogynist much? Perhaps.... But, Madhuri on top is a no-brainer for me, THE greatest hindi film actress of all time easily in my books. After her, I used to like Rani a LOT in the 2000s, but currently, there is not one that stands out, a lot of them are just good actresses period. If I absolutely HAD to, I would pick Deepika - didn't remotely think I would say something like that after that Love Aaj Kal debacle where she basically killed the entire movie all by herself.

Really like Deepika and Alia's movies and their performances. Otherwise, don't think I really had favourites prior to them.

I never had a favorite actress, have only watched movies for the male lead Off screen, I have liked Sushmita Sen - for her awesome personality. Same. Never really been a fan of any actresses. I liked Juhi and Kajol in the 90s but Juhi stopped getting roles and Kajol turned out to have only one acting style - being herself and basically shouting and squealing in every role. Kareena is a fabulous actress but has so many bad movies. Loved her in Jab We Met and Asoka. Right now, I like Alia the most with Anushka being a distant second. Anu produces great movies and her acting in movies like NH10 and Pari is really good. Sush is great both onscreen and offscreen but her personality is so dominating that she hardly got roles.

Never liked any of the Kapoor sisters, both always seem rather fake and not natural. I'm glad SRK hasn't made many movies with them..I heard once that Kareena Kapoor was supposed to be the female lead in Kal Ho Na Ho, thank god that didn't happen because she would have ruined it with her lackluster acting. Preity was amazing in that role.

The only actress that I really ever loved was SRIDEVI. I love the way she used to act, her comic timing, her eyes, her emotional performance, her dancing, everything about her. I still remember how amazed I was after watching Chaalbaaz. I just loved her. The day she passed away she took a bit of my childhood with her. For me she was a complete actress. I wonder if she even qualifies for the above question but I had to say.
I used to love Juhi for her comic timing, there has been no one like her since. I mean its a void, I can't see any one filling in any time soon. She is only one to match SRK's brand of comedy. Next Kajol, Loved watching her with SRK. I think she used to match / balance with SRK's restless energy. There was time with Pinjar, Ek Haseena Thi, Pyar Tune Kya Kiya, Urmila was at the peak of her performance. I had really hoped then, during that phase for her to play the lead with SRK. Since Rani and Preity's exit, I have not been interesting in any actress really that includes Katrina (don't even consider as an actress), Deepika, Anushka and the likes. I am especially sick of seeing these three with SRK.

I watched that round table conversation, she was an embarrassment to say the least, you could see how uncomfortable Tabu was. She came over as bimbo from yrf la la land whom is foreign to the real word

I had never been all that interested in the ladies until the last decade. It was all about SRK for me. But I'll give it a shot.
90's - Juhi, Madhuri 2000's - Rani 2010's - Anushka, Deepika, Katrina
I know some will balk at me including Katrina, but she's been slowly growing on me, and last night I watched her Film Companion interview after Zero and was blown away. I feel she's been shortchanged a lot.

Especially when you consider how long she has been in the industry..most of her movies she is only there as the pretty face/to look sexy.

Almost seemed competitive

Even though she's given some good performances like MBKD (which made me a fan), Namaste London and New York, I think she just doesn't get the chance, she's been typecast. Haven't seen it, but I've heard that she was the best part of Tiger Zinda Hai too. Hopefully after Zero, she'll get the opportunities to show more.

I mean movies like Jab Tak Hai Jaan (Yash Chopra movies are known to have great heroines) would have been the perfect chance but she wasted it. Her bad performance there almost killed the movie and has been mentioned many times. I have watched Namaste London and New York and thought she was very average in them, not bad but not really anything memorable either. Zero is the first time she seemed to put real effort into her performance, I hope she keeps doing that but we will see. There is certainly unexpected talent there and it would be a shame to waste it.
