OK, some of you cricket experts explain to us dummies what he's actually been accused of? "illegal bowling action"? Huh??

To put it very simply, a bowling action is supposed to be such that the ball gets released by the natural movement of the arm, and not as a throw. So say you hold a ball, and rotate your arm in a clockwise direction, and then RELEASE (not throw) the ball when your arm is at the top, the ball then takes the motion generated by your arm. That is therefore much slower than if someone actually threw the ball, as in baseball

You cannot straighten a bent elbow. Simple as that.
to the naked eye, Narine's action is definitely not clean. Not half as bad as the Ajmal's and Senanayake's of this world, but still a problematic action. Let's see how this plays out.

Rules were changed post the Murali incident back in the 2000s (I think) to allow 15 degrees of what is called "natural flexing of the elbow". It will be interesting to see if Narine is able to stay within the limit. Plus it is not as bad for Narine, because only his quicker delivery is under suspicion. So as long as he is not using that delivery, it should be fine - he has half a dozen other variations and he hardly ever gets wickets using the quicker one

Another example of BCCI thinking they are more important than even the ICC. this is so ridiculous.

Sunil Narine is the biggest reason for KKR's success in the recent years. For all the money spent on Pathan and Gambhir, Narine has almost single-handedly taken them to 2 titles. I hope he continues to shine through. I also hope KKR pick Andre Russell for every game this season. I have a feeling he will be a very big success.

Since he has been exonerated and is being allowed to play, can we change the name of this thread?

I wonder how adversely this "modified action" will affect his bowling. Hopefully not too much

Absolutely moronic. Cleared by the ICC, but oh no, India need to make their own rules. Srinivasan and his stake in the Ramachandra medical school need more love and more money. Next step, force the ICC BCCI to accept this as a full-fledged testing center. Then on to making this THE only testing center in the world. Bunch of hooligans running world cricket over the last decade or so. Screw the IPL Sunil, move on and play international cricket.

Okay, help. How do they keep doing this? If he is so stressed about doing it wrong, how can he bowl at all? In American baseball (the closest thing to cricket) there is no such thing as an illegal motion. You can't doctor a ball by putting stuff on it or anything, but how you throw is your business. Could some cricket afficianado out there explain this to those of us who are baffled? Thanks!!

It's not like the guy's body had been surgically altered with a robotic arm, or he used performance-enhancing substances! If it's a case of a normal human body and skill against other normal human bodies, what's the problem? And why did they never notice this 'suspect action' until so recently? Conspiracies, anyone? Just because 'it's always been done that way' doesn't make it right... I think they should report Chris Gayle for being some alien advanced super-human species! He's got to be cheating somehow, right? (Don't get excited, I'm just joking -- pretty much.)

Haha. Very simply put, bending your elbow beyond a certain limit is not considered a legal action for a bowler. Reason being, it gives bowlers a very unfair advantage over bowlers who do not bend it. Ofcourse it is a lot more complicated than that, and it involves something that is called "flex". Narine's action for his stock ball, which is the off spinner, was found to be going over the allowed 15 degrees of flex. Which is why he was called last year. He then remedied his actions and made a comeback. But he was not the same bowler. And after going wicketless, I think he got under a lot of pressure and reverted back to his older action which is considered illegal. Why they are getting so strict now ? That I am not sure. But it looks like the authorities have finally decided to stamp out the bowlers with illegal actions. I think its good for the game to respect the rules
