I really hope the Pathan gamble pays off this time at least.
I"m also not sure about Piyush Chawla, never thought he did that good.

KKR still need a lot of players, I wonder what their game plan is.

I am very disappointed with KKR's choice of batsmen. They did not get a single big hitter or impact player. Look at KXIP - they got Maxwell for 6cr, Bailey for 3.25, Marsh for 2.2, Perera for 1.6 and freaking Sehwag for 3.2. And they still have more money left. I wish KKR had fought for atleast one of these guys instead of dishing out 5cr for Utthappa or Kallis
The bowling lineup looks good though - Morkel is an excellent pick, and Vinay and Umesh can work around him. And then we obviously have Narine and Shakib. Hope they get Iqbal Abdulla back again

Good strategy, but they should have employed it against Yusuf instead of Kallis. They could have got Yusuf for a decently low amount instead of wasting a right-to-match on him. Given the pitch and conditions in Kolkata, it was obvious that they would bid for a decent Indian spinner. I was hoping for Mishra, but will settle for Chawla. Chawla will do very well in Kolkata. They need some Indian batsmen now. Where did Pujara go?

Pujara went to Punjab as well. I don't have a lot of faith in Chawla. He has hardly ever performed upto his potential.
I hope they get Ross Taylor tomorrow in the second round.

I guess all is not lost yet - I went through the list of unsold players. There are still good ones left:
Ross Taylor David Hussey Angelo Mathews Tillakaratne Dilshan Cameron White Luke Ronchi Andre Russell Dan Christian Adam Voges Jesse Ryder

^ Let's see about Chawla. I have a feeling he will bowl very well in tandem with Narine. With Narine, everyone's strategy is going to be to play him out, which will mean Chawla will have plenty of wicket-taking opportunities.
Ross Taylor will be a good buy, but with so much money left in their pockets, Punjab will probably get him. Punjab did brilliant in this auction, really. They got Pujara too? Well done. Beautifully planned and they got some good players for next to nothing.
What KKR need are good young Indian batsmen - Badrinath, Das, Zol, Chand. And what happened to Tendo?

Tendo is unsold I believe.

I wish they had used their right to match for Manoj Tiwary instead of Yusuf.

yeah we really need to get Ross Taylor. It's madness that other NZ players have been sold and not him when he is our best batsman. He can be a rock around which to bat but at teh same time, he can be incredibly explosive too.
Luke ronchi would also be a great choice, given he's a wicketkeeper and can bat really well down the order in tough situations.

This team looks mediocre and not suit for t20. There is no match winning all rounder. Maybe kallis & shakib can be good but not compare to other dashing all rounder like Faulkner pollard Sammy Watson t. Parera etc who can turn the game single handedly Morkel is good on fast pitches not flat Indian pitches. His place was not even consistent in DD last year. Vinay kumar is good pick with uthappa who can be handy as wicketkeeper. If kkr want to concedes more sixes then chawla is there..there was already 3 spinners naraine, Pathan and shakib then y needs chawla. He has history conceding more sixes in ipl history. Taylor is absolutely failed in all previous six ipl
Thank god at least tendo got back Kkr made big mistake leaving rajat bhatia

Well, boys, thank you. How do I see how many people, so many opinions. So what can we expect one-championship and then we will see who is right and who is not)))

in the end, whether team looks good on paper or not does not really matter, we just have to hope that when it comes to playing, the guys are in form and do better than the other teams.
But yeah overall, I'm pretty happy with what we have so far (barring the Yusuf Pathan thing).

Harsha Bhogle @bhogleharsha · 15m
first reaction to #ipl auction. teams much better balanced than previous years, should expect a real tussle for places in last 4
personally, think 13 indian players & 7 overseas just right. can back your players that way. with too many, temptation to make changes
no franchise with 9 overseas players. good move. no point picking top players and not playing them. 7just about right

A few decent purchases today I must say. I am still not satisfied with the 'power hitters' KKR have in the team (especially compared to other teams), but the most important thing will be for these players to perform well together which was lacking last year.
I think this year atleast Shakib and Tendo will get a more consistent run. They should play Chris Lynn but hard to find a spot for him. Preferred starting XI could be:
1. Gambhir(capt)
2. Uthappa (would be great if they play him as keeper)
3. Kallis*
4. Manish Pandey
5. Shakib*
6. Tendo / Russell*
7. Pathan (who else)
8. Piyush Cawla
9. Morne Morkel*
10. Sunil Narine*
11. Umesh Yadav / Vinay Kumar
Just as a batting lineup, its not one that comes across as a very dangerous one. But we have seen over the last 6 IPLs how several deadly looking batting lineups have fizzed out and failed miserably.

Andre Russell is another good pick. If Andre Russell and Yusuf Pathan can consistently provide quick runs, either up the order or lower down, this team will do really well. I have very high hopes for this season. But every team needs to sit down and figure out how to make 250 against RCB. Because if they don't, RCB will probably achieve the target in the 15th over.

What's Gambhir's form looking like, anyone know? That's going to be very important for us.
I was suprised he wasn't in the indian squad coming to NZ. At first I thought he may have been injured, but then saw he just hadn't been picked, which doesn't bode too well.
I also hope this year we play Tendo from the start and at least try him out for some matches.
I don't know much about Chris Lynn, but assuming he must have done well in Australian domestic.

I think Chris Lynn was the Player of the last BBL. Even if he wasn't, he was very close. Hard-hitting batsman. Good player that will start to become a permanent fixture of the Australian T20 squad soon I feel.

It is good that kkr prefer to go maximum with Indian player. But selection looks very ordinary. None of them comparable to dhawan Rohit kohli dhoni Raina ishant shami jadeja or not even like kartik. Samson or rahne mohit sharma, mishra. If u closely analyze kkr batting in past 6 ipl they have crossed 200 only 2 times. There is only one century so far from kkr side and that also came in 1st ipl. Whatever kkr won the matches those were low scoring barring one in 2012 final and one in 2010. Except 5 th ipl which was pure magic of Sunil Narires, kkr always remain one of bottom 3 teams. Big players can be fizzed out for few time but most of the time they guide safely toward victory. This is the reason why Mumbai chennai Rajasthan Hyderabad RCB finds place in top 4. They got not only strong Indian players but overseas too.

Comes across as a well-balanced and solid squad, although not as spectacular as some others and there are quite a few hit or miss players in the batting department so hopefully they click (especially Pathan).
Brendon Mccullum's in great form recently so KKR could end up regretting not retaining him.
