I LOVE board games. My favorite game as a kid was Ravensburger's Scotland Yard. There is absolutely nothing that can top this game for me. In a couple of years, when my kid is older, I would love to play this game with her. It is a tough game, but a LOT of fun.

Never played that game. What kind is it ? Strategy ? Any other favorites ? This might not be considered a board game technically, but Resistance/Mafia/Werewolf has to be one of my all time favorite social games. Plays with the psyche of the players involved. Turns friends into foes

Yes. A complete strategy and turn-based game. It is usually fun with at least 5 players. In such a scenario, one of them plays the thief Mr. X, while the other 4 play cops chasing him. Mr. X moves from one position to another using 3 possible modes of transport - bus, taxi or train - each providing him various lengths of travel. Every move, he writes his position down on a piece of paper and tells you which mode of transportation he took, which also helps the cops narrow his position down (not all stops on the board are train or bus stations, but a cab will stop everywhere); and every fifth turn or so, he has to reveal to everyone where he is. If you cannot nab him in 30 (I think) moves, he wins. Its just a really clever game that has everything I want out of a board game, including instilling honesty in kids. As in, if a cop lands on a spot where you are (even unknowingly), you are supposed to give yourself up.
Other than this, though, I only played the regular board games - ludo, monopoly (which was my second go-to game always) and the likes...
I looked up Settlers of Catan btw, just some images. So, the object is to get all your pegs around a hexagon and that becomes your property?

That actually sounds really interesting. I will definitely look for it next time at the board games pub.
You have Settlers of Catan marked down fairly well. It also has a few elements of monopoly wherein you are exchanging resources for property, exchanging resources with other players and even trying to block out other players. Each "property" you make has certain points allotted to it - a road is worth 0 points, a city is worth 1 point and a settlement is worth 2 points. First player to 10 points wins. The rules are very easy to follow.
I think you will like it if you like monopoly. Aimilar concept, but it keeps every player engaged till the end (monopoly can get boring for people who fall behind)
Another good one is Ticket to Ride. you are allotted routes on a map and you have to build train tracks between these cities to gain points - based on the resources (cards) you have
