Kallis appointed Knight Riders head coachKolkata Knight Riders have signed Jacques Kallis as their new head coach for the upcoming season. Kallis will succeed Trevor Bayliss, who took over as head coach of England in June. Kallis, who has been with the franchise since 2011, was the team's batting consultant in IPL 2015. "KKR is my family in India and the association since 2011 has been one of the most enjoyable experiences for me," Kallis said. "I look forward to the new challenge and feel honoured to be part of the KKR family." Venky Mysore, Knight Riders' chief executive, said the Kallis signing ensured a smooth transition for the team. "We couldn't be happier that Jacques agreed to take on the role as head coach of KKR," Mysore said. "The respect and regard he commands in the dressing room as well as his fondness for KKR made him our ideal choice." www.espncricinfo.com/india/content/story/931510.html

Interesting. Given that he has no prior experience in a role like this, will be interesting to see how he goes. Bayliss was a big loss.

I"m just happy he's still involved in the team. Hopefully he will be a good coach.

KKR has a fairly well balanced team I think. The auction was OKish for KKR

I thought the auction was just terrible. What are they doing holding on to all this cash? They already have a well balanced team, yes. But they should always try and have some cheap backups in case of injury to key players. Munro was a pretty good buy, was a steal actually. But with Eden Gardens pitch always offering enough turn, they should really have bid up for Samuel Badree and/or Pragyan Ojha even. In case Natine is banned again, or Hogg and a Chawla have a couple of terrible games.

True and Venky Mysore CEO joked after the auction about SRK calling him and asking him why he was holding the money.
