Thought I would re-start this thread new here.
Saw The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug: 9/10 I liked it more than the first one. It was so beautifully shot- The dragon was amaaazing! Although there were still some really silly moments, but overall I totally enjoyed it.
Prisoners- 9/10 Really well done, the tone was very suspenseful and kept you guessing. The acting was great too.

I watched American Hustle - 9/10
The movie was smart, funny (rather hilarious), witty, well-paced and brilliantly acted. Every single actor was superb - especially Christian Bale. He is just mind-freakin-blowing. Packed so many emotions in one character - played a smart character who is actually a very simple man and extremely vulnerable. Top notch. Jeremy Renner was fabulous too as the sincere Mayor. Amy Adams superb as always, and Brad Cooper was brilliant. Jennifer Lawrence had a relatively smaller role, but she packed a punch everytime she was on the screen. Gotta love this girl
Definitely recommend watching this movie.

^I like that movie too. I stayed away from it for ages just cause romance is my least liked genre and it's even called "Love Actually". But I was going on an Alan Rickman marathon a couple of years ago so ended up watching it and was really surprised by it. Wonderful, funny, sweet, sad all in one. A good Christmas movie for sure.
What was your favourite story within it?

What was your favourite story within it? Definitely the one with Colin Firth! And the one with the wonderful Emma Thompson and Alan Rickman and the one with Liam Neeson. But actually I love them all.

Riddick- very disappointing. I really liked the first two movies. But this one swapped out all the interesting things of the first two just for more violence and gore. Really sad, this franchise has so much potential really because there's nothing else like it out there. 4/10

Pacific Rim (rewatch)-8/10. This movie is really awesome, even though it has cliche moments, there is just something about the way it has been made that really draws you in. I think the opening sequence has a lot to do with, the world created is laid out very well for you. I dare say I think enjoyed this more the second time. I can't be sure, but I recall giving this a 7/10 the first time, perhaps due to high expectations from reviews I read.
Also, the music is simply brilliant. I can listen to it again and again, not get bored. Ramin Djawadi has done a fantastic job. I liked his work in TV shows Person of Interest and Game of Thrones a lot too. I think he's my second favourite now after Hans Zimmer.
The Prestige- 10/10 Seeing dhoom 3 made me feel like watching this again. It must be probably my 5th time watch this movie but I still loved it.
The Hunger Games- 7/10 Haven't seen Catching Fire yet, but thought I would see the first one again before I do. In this case, my ratings actually gone down slightl (was 8 before). It's good, but flawed, I think there were a lot of cheesy moments. The actions scenes also could have been better. And it didn't feel like there was enough time spent. The games seemed to last barely a few days. Plus the shaky cam was really irritating. But Jennifer Lawrence did a great job.

Just came back from watching 'The Secret Life of Walter Mitty'. I absolutely loved it! 9/10 from me. Ben Stiller is approaching genius, in my opinion. Such a masterful blend of comedy, romance and drama wrapped in amazing visual technology. The opening titles alone were such fun... whimsically clever.

I saw The Secret Life of Walter Mitty over the holidays, too. I also really enjoyed it! Funny, sweet, uplifting, and visually stunning.

Did anyone watch the Wolf of the Wall Street? It's runtime is 3hrs (wth). Just wondering if anyone here watched it and if it is actually worth investing the time in.

abhijacko I was wondering the same thing. The movie looks really good, but I haven't seen too many reviews on it yet. A friend of mine did watch it and said it was amazing. She said it did not feel like 3hrs at all. But she is not the first person I'd go to for movie reviews. She likes almost every movie she sees haha

haha - looks like everyone of us is just waiting for that right moment to watch it (either in theaters or DVD) I have found my taste to be matching up with the forum members here, so was hoping for some reviews before making up my mind I think I am going to watch it today or tomorrow - take one for the team, as they say

^well - how can I watch it when it'll be in Vienna's cinemas not before January 17th? Of course you cannot be aware of that fact but I thought I clarify *lol*. So maybe the wait is to long for you - my review will not be neccessary . But I am very curious about yours .

American Hustle - 5/10. Disappointment. Only Good in parts and boring in others where I ended up zoning out and falling asleep (maybe had to do with me being sleepy). Acting was good.
The secret life of Walter Mitty - 8/10. Nice, enjoyable film with a good message and great cinematography.

Oh! I Saw The Wolf Of Wall Street on it's first day! All I can say is that it's "disgustingly good" . Just look out for the "drug" and the kitchen scene!

Hobbit 2 - 7.5/10. Good, enjoyable watch for the most part but a bit too long and lacks a proper climax. Might have been better if it was just two films and not a trilogy. Nevertheless, I'm definitely keen for the third film.

Saw Frozen this evening with a bunch of kids. We all loved it! Lovely story, wonderful characters. The animation and songs were great too. Highly recommend it if you have reason to see a kids film.

Scenes From The Suburbs
A short film. I think it is one of the most touching ones I've seen! It is quite sad actually.

Found this great video explanation about one of the most amazing underrated films ever " The Fountain" . Thought I will share it here for some of you who saw it and may not understood the plot as much. Can't believe some critics called it a stupid film back in 2006! (zzz)

Watched The Lone Survivor - solid 8/10 Only thing I knew about the movie was that it had Mark Walbergh in it. It turned out to be a very convincing movie on a failed Afghanistan mission. The army bromance was very well handled and every character gave a solid performance. Very balanced movie overall with sufficient dollops of action, emotion and drama. The action scenes were actually very well done (Thank God, there was no slo-mo crap) PS: dunno when I will watch the Wolf Slept through the weekend again

I finally watched Man of Steel on Blu-ray. Was just so blah. I would give it 5/10, 6 if I was feeling generous. At one point in the second half, I actually stopped caring for any of the characters. Hopefully Affleck can do something to clean this mess up in the sequel.

The Wolf of Wall Street - 9/10
neeran - I totally get what you meant by 'disgustingly good' when you reviewed the Wolf of Wall Street
It was incredibly obscene, but I think the obscenity was very well placed and was required to show the debauchery committed by the Wolf and his gang of stockbrokers.
Leonardo DiCaprio really deserves an Oscar for this one - because he fulfilled the clichéd remark of 'sinking his teeth in the character'. His character was not likeable at all, right from the first scene. And the only way a 'disliked character' can run a film on its own is by being extremely convincing and Leo did just that. Will this be his Oscar year ?? Hopefully.
And hats off to Martin Scorsese for making a 3hour movie not seem too long. Could have been trimmed by 10-15 minutes maybe in the middle, when the whole transition from one wife to another wife is happening, but it wasn't too bad.
