The Wolf of Wall Street - 10/10
This film was insane ...completely amazing exprience to witness ...Such terrific acting - Leo, Jonah and the rest of the other characters killed it. Also huge props to Terence Winter for that screenplay.
If Leo doesn't win the Oscar for this movie, he never will.

LOL - interesting question. I would say his character was unlikeable-y bad. I mean, the Wolf did deplorable things to get ahead and get rich. And he did even worse things after getting rich lol
Which makes it even more amazing when you want to stick with him for 3 hours. I feel, only a really convincing performance that triggers strong feelings of dislike within you, can make you do that

neeran & abhijacko, I also watched Wolf of Wall Street last week and I loved it! I knew I was going to like it because I usually like Leo's films, and this one was also great! It's a bit long, but entertaining, so I enjoyed it Totally recommended! but don't take your kids.. haha

This sounds like one of those "family" films from the Bhatt camp

Ummmm - some scenes will make Bhatt movies seem like Disney fairy tales

Anchorman2 - 7/10
It was quite funny. I dint laugh throughout, but the scenes which I found funny were just hilarious. Almost as good as the first one. Will Ferrel is a champ when it comes to slapstick comedy, and he alongwith this whole 'news team' did a good job. Steve Carrell was even more insane when compared to the first movie.
If nothing else, the movie was worth the money for the final 'battle' scene which has the most insane, high-profile celebrity guest appearance

Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit- I liked it, there was nothing really special about it, but it was done well. I think I just like Kenneth Branagh's directing. I had the same with Thor, the movie itself had average story but somehow I enjoyed it quite a lot.

^^Nice. I felt the same about Thor as well. Maybe will check this one out this weekend. Although I am yet to watch Her and Saving Mr. Banks.

I watched Jack Ryan over the weekend (the one with Chris Pine/Kevin Costner). I enjoyed it. It was to the point, and nice and short, so things weren't dragged out.

The Wolf of Wall Street - 9/10
neeran - I totally get what you meant by 'disgustingly good' when you reviewed the Wolf of Wall Street
It was incredibly obscene, but I think the obscenity was very well placed and was required to show the debauchery committed by the Wolf and his gang of stockbrokers.
Leonardo DiCaprio really deserves an Oscar for this one - because he fulfilled the clichéd remark of 'sinking his teeth in the character'. His character was not likeable at all, right from the first scene. And the only way a 'disliked character' can run a film on its own is by being extremely convincing and Leo did just that. Will this be his Oscar year ?? Hopefully.
And hats off to Martin Scorsese for making a 3hour movie not seem too long. Could have been trimmed by 10-15 minutes maybe in the middle, when the whole transition from one wife to another wife is happening, but it wasn't too bad.
Yep! It is a really good film in a very disgusting way! Hehe. Didn't mind anything actually. Glad the makers didn't shy away from the subject that they are making a film about and ended up being true about it with that HW touch! And I didn't feel the film was that long either...not even at the middle. Though, I was annoyed with the type of song they have chosen towered the end or so. The melody is the usual pop songs of these days and which It was a turn off for me and I felt out of the movie. I was surprised they didn't use Kanye west's song "black skinhead" that they used in the trailer! A bloody perfect it will be.

Finally saw The Hunger Games: Catching Fire. In book terms I always prefered the first book, however, in movie terms, this is definitely much better than the first movie. The lack of shaky cam certainly helped. But I think just overall the story is told better, and less cheesy stuff. Also I prefer the side characters in this one. It was a great adaptation for sure.

I re-watched Rush again - 10/10. This time I really was able to appreciate the movie technically. It is superbly directed and very creatively shot. And the performances are just out of this world. I am really shocked with the movie not getting a single oscar nomination.
How is Jonah Hill nominated for supporting actor in the Wolf of Wall Street and Bradley Cooper for American Hustle ? But Daniel Bruhl as Nikki Lauda isnt ? Utter rubbish ! He was nominated for Golden Globes, BAFTA and SAG. Atleast some people are still sensible
And they have Prisoners nominated for Cinematography ?? but not Rush ??

That's a movie I've been meaning to see as well, only thing holding me back is that I don't have any knowledge of car racing and it doesn't really interest me all that much. Do you think it would still be enjoyable for someone like me? I also saw Captain Phillips a while ago, it was very good. the guys playing hte pirates especially did a great job considering they are newcomers. When I saw the trailer for the movie, it seemed like a silly subject, but the movie was well made, it didn't feel boring or slow. 7/10

^I had to giggle when I read your comments... you wonder if you'd like Rush because you have no interest in or knowledge of car racing. Then you go on to talk about Captain Phillips. My first thought was... I wonder if she's spent much time working on a freighter, or contemplated a career as a pirate? Just teasing you... it was cute though. To answer your Rush question though... I have zero interest in car racing myself, but I enjoyed and appreciated Rush a lot! Yes, you should see it for the acting, the writing, the cinematography... the overall excellent production values. BTW... Captain Phillips was a true story, so not really so silly. hehe Actually, both those movies were based on real life.

riverpanthera - I showed the movie to my roommate last night and he has no knowledge of car racing. But he just loved the movie and said that it has to be his most favorite movie from last year. The movie is more about human nature with car racing as a backdrop and is not too technical, which is why it works so well.

Maryah lol that is true. Actually even in past I have liked movies about things I don't otherwise have interest in. Eg I like Warrior even if I hate boxing. But then other boxing movies I can't watch, so it really does depend on the movie I guess. I knew Captain Phillps was true, but it still seemed silly to me to make a movie out of it from the trailers. However I felt exactly the same about Gravity and loved that too. Trailers really can be very misleading sometimes. But thanks for the comments on Rush, and to you as well abhijacko, will check it out for sure

Not exactly watched- I tried to see the new paranormal activity today, but had to leave within 30 minutes due to the handy cam. Geez, it was awful, so anyone who hates shaky cam and gets a terrible headache like me, definitely avoid this.
I should have known to be fair, since it's based on the home video style. But I had seen the first Paranormal Actity and didn't mind that one- mainly cause the camera was often mounted, but here it was constantly being carried around- at least the parts that I saw. I haven't seen the others paranormals though so don't know how they are. I only went to this one cause I was invited, but didn't expect it to be so bad. I felt like throwing up. Waste of $20 too.

Oh wow. I totally know what you mean. I am so so sick of all this shaky cam business. So much so that I would actually prefer being tortured by watching a Salman movie than watch a better movie with shaky cam bs.

I have recently seen Saving Mr Banks. Thoroughly enjoyed it! It was funny but also extremely sad and makes you want to rush off to re-watch Mary Poppins. I have always thought Emma Thompson and srk would make a great combination. She's such a good actor and has such charm and lots of whimsy. She's a little older than he is (and in this film is made to look a lot older) and it would be a wonderful opportunity to shake up the usual and predictable older man/younger woman pairing.

The Wolf of Wall Street 6/10Pretty mad and wicked satire - a story that doesn't surprise or shock these days IMHO. Inflationary use of the 'F' word was really ridiculous and so annoying!! In every sentence there was it- minimum three times. But the movie was also very funny and the music was great! I can't understand why this movie is nominated everywhere as 'best movie' but I understand completely why Leonardo Di Caprio is - he was out of this world! Fantastic acting from the whole cast. This is why I haven't left after one hour. And Leonardo Di Caprio, Jonah Hill and Margot Robbie make this movie a must watch. Also the smaller roles played by A-Class actors - like Jean Dujardin, Joanna Lumley, Rob Reiner and Kyle Chandler make this movie watchable. So the movie itself didn't amaze me but the actors - especially Leo - did big time. the scene when Jordan went home in his car, the whole scene (on the phone at the country club, the drive, at home with Donnie) - totally stoned - was hilarious and so disgusting at the same time. Out of this world acting here

Monuments Men - 7.5/10 I had no idea what the movie was about. Just knew it had a fabulous cast. The movie was a fun watch. Apparently it is a true story, which makes it quite interesting.
But I think there were too many parallel sub-plots and Clooney was not able to handle them all equally well. Clooney also wasn't able to do a great job of enforcing the main idea of the movie - Sometimes a piece of art is worth dying for Performances were very good because it was a cast full of brilliant actors. The plot with Bill Murray and Bob Balaban was the best one. Hilarious and heartwarming. The encounter with the German soldier is one of the best scenes in the movie.

300: Rise of an Empire - 7/10
If you liked 300 for what it was, you will dig this movie too. If you hated 300 for what it was, you will hate this one too.
Personally I fall in the first camp. It's not quite as good as the original but Eva Green DOMINATES the entire thing. It's worth watching just for her. Cracking performance! Also, this woman is sex incarnate. I'm a totally straight girl, but I can’t stop thinking about her, HOLY s***.
