The low imdb score for the new Ghostbusters movie is ridiuclous. I guess it's just a bunch of haters. It's baffling to me that such a good-natured movie caused such a sh*tstorm for no reason whatsover. I'm looking forward to seeing it.
As for my favourite movies this year:
1. Zootopia 2. The Jungle Book 3. 10 Cloverfield Lane 4. The Witch 5. The Nice Guys

Star Trek: Beyond 6.5/10
MEH !! Maybe I am getting saturated with the mindless action blockbusters but I found it very average and nowhere on the level of the first movie's heart/drama or the second one's acting performances
It honestly felt like they had injected bits and pieces of vaguely dramatic moments to give a break from the action set pieces (some of which were quite repetitive and boring). Essentially a Fast and Furious movie in space

Bit late to the party, but this year has been quite average so far, I've liked a lot of movies but there haven't really been any masterpieces so far. Although perhaps I just haven't watched the right movies. Cause I've mostly just watched the superhero ones.
The best 5 movies so far 1) Hunt for the Wilderpeople (only movie that I gave a 10/10 to so far) 2) Eye in the Sky (9/10) 3) Batman v Superman Ultimate Edition (9/10) 4) X-Men Apocalypse (8/10) 5) Captain America Civil War (8/10)

Batman the Killing Joke- 8.5/10 It was really cool getting to see a batman animated movie in theatres. I'm so glad they decided to release it even if just for one day. I hope they do this more often in future. Anyway the first 20 minutes were kind of awful (at least in one certain aspect which is the incredibly creepy romance between Batgirl & Batman taht just should not exist and is plain wrong . However after that it was basically a near perfect adaptation of the original comic and it was brilliantly done. the voice acting was amazing of course with Kevin Conroy & Mark Hamill reprising their roles, they really are the definitive Batman & Joker. If it wasn't for what I put in the spoilers, it would get a 10/10 as an adaptation.

Watched Batman The Killing Joke as well. It was decent but I much preferred the other few batman animated movies I watched. The joke at the end was super funny tbh lol.

Jason Bourne 8/10 It was very action packed and fast paced in typical bourne movie style with not much story but I really enjoyed it. Matt Damon was awesome as always.

Jason Bourne - 6/10
Average flick but alright for a one time watch especially given there's not much else playing. Basically a 2 hour long action packed chase with not much focus on story. I LOVED Alicia Vikander in this film. Extra marks to the film just because of her.

Star Trek Beyond- personally i loved this. probably the best blockbuster movie this year..ticked all the righ boxes for me..a cool space adventure with nice character interactions and appropriate amount of humour. Only real negayive was the villain not well developed and probably a tad too much cgi action at some points. 9/10

Suicide Squad - 7/10
Was quite a lot of fun. Typical wafer thin story and the team-up factor was not handled well - but Will Smith and Margot Robbie really carried the movie on their able shoulders - solid performances. The action was good and not over-done I thought. The first twenty minutes were fantastic - really get you into the movie. Then the movie falters quite a bit and the pacing is off - but the entertainment value is still there
The much talked about soundtrack was a bit disappointing - they used some of my favorite songs of all time, but it felt like they were forcing it. Could take a leaf out of what they did with GOTG where every classic song selected fit with the situation perfectly.
The biggest flaw was the villain, Enchantress. The actress playing that role was so bad .. so so bad. I don't know who cast her in that role.
Jared Leto as the Joker - a cameo appearance, was average imo. Found him awesome at times and really annoying at others. Not enough footage to judge though
Batman special appearance was AWESOME !!
Overall a very good action entertainer, but not a memorable one

It's interesting, I've noticed in this case, some people who didn't like BvS are liking this one, even if critical reception is similar.

Haha, what do you mean "even you" This one is a marked improvement from BvS in the sense that this movie doesn't take itself too seriously and delivers a decent action movie. It has its flaws no doubt, especially the whole concept of superbad people "saving the world" - and I say superbad because most of them did not even have any super-powers - but it was fun nonetheless - Will Smith and Margot put up charming performances

I watched Suicide Squad as well and it was pretty good fun but not great. i definitely dont understand critics tbough..once again way too harsh on this movie..its definitely not that bad. There was some really good stuff..particularly characters like Harley, Deadshot, Rick Flag,El Diablo were well done. Others like Killer Croc, Katana and Captain Boomerang made an impression but were underdeveloped. Enchantress...was a mixed bag..i really liked her in some parts but horrible in others..particularly once her “look” changes. I wish they had just kept the original look The movie had a lot of magical/supernatural elements which i didnt expect. Some it again was bad as too much cgi nonsense but kinda interesting too as it was very different to what weve seen so far in any superhero movie. I did like the style of the movie as well..very artistic and comic booky. Also love how they did all the character intros. Humour was pretty good..though a few lines fell flat for me. Definitely loved the small Batman cameos and also the , after credit with Bruce Wayne and the Flash scene with Boomerang I would probably give it a 7 too. For me tbough BvS was definitely better..ive seen that movie so many times and own it..this i dont think i will rewatch except maybe a few scenes.

What did u think of Leto's Joker
|
|
|
Post by ujjwala on Aug 13, 2016 10:14:00 GMT -8
I liked Leto's Joker. When I saw BvS, the portrayal of Lex was very Joker-like for me, I was like if this is Lex what is left for Joker to do and for me he manage to make Joker a different person and hence making Lex, Lex for me, if you know what I mean. Unfortunately it was very short, they seemed to have edited a lot of his scenes, even one which appeared in the first promo. Secondly I felt they did re-shoots and changed his character. They tried to show Joker and Harley like that have some amazing lover story, however it actually is what everything a love story should not be. This is not an R-rated movie I guess and their actual relationship if shown would give them that rating. This guy has been working on that role for like 2 years?? and what is his screen time?? Its unfair. For one I was not looking for a Heath Ledger like performance of Joker here, looking at the feel of this film, that joker would not fit here. That Joker has been done to perfection, you try being like him, you are not good enough. So I am glad he did not try to be like Heath.
Now I am going to be in a minority here, I did not like this Deadshot. I recently saw this actor in 'Men in Black' series and I can't see any difference between his portrayal as Deadshot (bad guy) and from MIB (good guy), even body language seems same. (He sure did a great job in 'Pursuit of Happiness'). He was never really menacing, he did capture the emotional appeal but did not come across very conflicted. He had some great scenes showing what a great shooter he is but we all know how much of that really requires acting skills. If anyone has seen Deadshot in the TV-Series Arrow - he was manacing, human, conflicted and had a sense of humor, I could feel for him.
The biggest issue of this film is the mission, what was about this mission that needed expendable baddies? When I see an expendable team, I am expecting a mission that the good guys can't be sent to complete, like infiltrating enemy base, etc. And what a horrible Villain, she was dancing throughout the climax, I was like what the hell is she doing. The whole plot was rubbish.
The person who totally nailed it is actress playing Harley Quinn. She was awesome. For me she carries this film on her shoulders. She perfectly captures nuances of Harley I saw in Batman, the Animated Series. The second person was El Diablo, I could understand where he was coming from, the decision he made, etc. And third is Boomerang, though he did not have any backstory, the actor did a good job of convincing me to see his character as he is now even if I did not know where he came from. Katana was most unimpressive among squad members followed by Flag. Amanda Waller was scary and she did good but they had some random obvious scenes to show how she was worse than the squad members, it was in your face.
However its not like I hated this film, it had some great moments. When I first saw BvS, I came out confused, this time I was not confused, I may not agree it was the right mission for them but its not like I did not get what the missions was. So this is better than BvS theatrical cut. However after seeing the ultimate cut, I will rate BvS better than this one. Hopefully we get a better edit on home media.
This is the 3rd film in this universe and yet to see a satisfying film. Hope Wonder Woman can do the trick.
WOW that's a long post.
I have a question though, when Ben Afflek was announced as Batman there was a lot of backlash, even here on this forum. I would like to know what people think about this casting decision now. I think he is perfect and possibly my fav Batman.

What did u think of Leto's Joker He was interestong..did feel more like tha animated ones. But the role was too small to judge properly like you said. I heard rumours they cut his role like ujjwala said and i dont understand why they would do that considering how much they promoted him Its seems both with BvS and Suicide Squad, studio meddling has prevented movies from being as good as they can be

Suicide Squad - 7/10 Like X-Men Apocalypse, this was another movie I was close to not watching because of the poor reviews and backlash but glad I did. As said above, it's good fun and entertaining, though far from great. A good movie if you're looking for something cool and entertaining to watch with mates. It was much better than Batman vs Superman.
The ensemble of villains was good. I liked Boomerang the most since he was the funniest followed by Deadshot and Harley Quinn.
There were a number of loopholes and logical flaws but meh I didn't focus on them too much. Jared Leto was decent as the Joker but there wasn't much of him. Hopefully he has a prominent role in the solo Batman movie. The actress playing the witch, enchantress, was pretty bad, especially in the latter portions, but luckily she didn't have a big role.
Sausage Party - 7/10 Pretty funny and clever.

Suicide Squad - 4/10
What a complete mess of a movie. I really wanted to like it, but that sh*t editing and lackluster screenplay killed the movie. It's so disjoint and very cliched. The unnecessary emotional sequences and overly dramatic climax fight ...Batman vs Superman was so much better - the ultimate cut has a decent story and character development and acting was spot on. Suicide Squad has no identity and it's not fun. Don't know why people keep saying that lol.
Deadshot and Viola's Waller were the only redeeming parts of the movie. Harley was okay, the Joker didn't appeal to me at all. And Cara needs to stick to modeling.

I think he is perfect and possibly my fav Batman.I still do not like his portrayal, mainly because Affleck is a very mediocre actor and you could see it clearly it in this role. almost the same expression throughout and that expression seems to have continued to his new movie as well (the Accountant). And yet he was the best thing about BvS for me. I am no expert on Batman besides the Burton and Nolan movies, but this was my least favorite Batman. He was a maniac yet a very dull one. Christian Bale takes the cake

^ Michael Keaton is my favorite Batman of all time. But can't fault any call for Christian Bale. He was brilliant, especially in Begins.
10 Cloverfield Lane - 8/10
Really liked it. It reminded me a lot of RGV's Kaun. I wasn't too enamored with the ending. I would have liked to have seen it go completely the other way, but I guess they already have a sequel in mind.

^^I don't think they are going to continue this story in the sequel. Its done. They made it pretty clear that She decided to not run off this one time and went off to fight the Aliens I think the sequel will be un-related to the first two movies, except that it will share the same core premise of "something weird is going on". Will be like "True Detective" where the two seasons were different stories but shared the same theme of crime drama or like American Horror Story

@pepper I actually kinda agree with you..im revising my rating down to 6...it was a bit of a mess to me.Though i did still enjoy it in theatres but more i think about it the less i like it. Its totally opposite to how i felt about BvS. I Im always amazed by how different opinions can be when it comes to movies..though in a good way..makes me appreciate movies more actually as i feel even if i didnt like doesnt mean its bad So im glad its getting good response and i want them to make more movies. ujjwala..you already know how i feel about Ben but i love him as Batman. Looks wise he is the most perfect. He hasnt quite surpassed Christian yet acting wise though for me but he could depending on how the Batman solo goes.

I will not comment on Christian as Batman cause when I saw his films I knew nothing about Batman. He was my intro to the character and hardly much registered during my watch. Since then the character of Batman has grown on me. I guess I should see them again sometime. But only thing I remember really bothering me was the dialog delivery. As Batman I could never understand what he was saying. I had to totally depend on subtitles.
However I am glad that is not the case in Ben's adaptation. I like him very much. I can see Bruce Wayne who has been around as Batman for 20 years and still not made a significant difference. A bit worn-out, whose self imposed rules are developing cracks and from the JL promo it seems, assembling a team has infused new life in him.
