WOW!! Breathtaking, Nolan is the best filmmaker ever... I read somewhere that people who know more about "Interstellar" say most of the trailer are just the first 15 mins of the film, I guess the fun starts after the ship goes through the wormhole. Eagerly waiting for this!

^Yeah I think that is based on the draft script that many have read. Thought the final one could have some changes, I think most of the original will probably remain so it gives a good idea I suppose. I started reading hte script myself but then stopped as didn't want to spoil movie for myself.

Trailer 3:
Another great trailer, really excited about this movie. If nothing else, I think at least visually this will be stunning.

If it is visually stunning as well, then it will be Gravity with a real story to tell and good direction I like how the trailer is teasing the idea of what the movie might be about without revealing the story like most trailers do these days

Another trailer this seriously gave me chills.
Also a small featurette:

Looks great. But I doubt they it will look as good as Gravity did. Gravity was simply breathtaking. If this can even get close, it will be great.

Looking as spectacular as Gravity. I just hope Interstellar has a better story than Gravity which was pretty simple and predictable. I am sure Nolan will never disappoint in the story/screenplay department. I have immense faith in him as well .. he wont disappoint

Just coming back from seeing Interstellar.
Act 1 - Spielberg Act 2 - meh Act 3 - Kubrick
I'm a huge Nolan-Fan, but I really don't know what to think now. It has some phenomenal moments and Hoytema + Zimmer deserve Oscars (and I'd be ok with a nom for McConaughey) but overall ...It's tough. I'm still trying to fully let this movie sink in. It's an EXTREMELY ambitious and unique movie, perhaps too ambitious. But I did love it though. Going to see it again this weekend.
Though visually....my god, Gargantua might be one of the most hauntingly beautiful things I've ever seen on a movie screen.
Also, can I just say that I absolutely think the score by Hans Zimmer is one of his very best. Hearing that in Real IMAX combined with the jaw-dropping imagery made for a euphoric experience for this cinema goer
Rating 8/10 (might change for the better after a 2nd viewing)

INteresting, I'm seeing it this weekend, guess I will go with slightly lower expectations than before (though i will be very surprised if I don't like the movie so still have good hopes, but perhaps not egoing to expect a masterpiece now). How would you rank it compared to other Nolan movies?

Post by Deleted on Nov 7, 2014 1:50:15 GMT -8
I don't think you should lower your expectations. It's by no means a bad movie, just very different from everything Nolan's done so far. Thought provoking and interesting sci-fi with a scattered message. Worth seeing but definitely not for everyone. I saw the movie with 5 friends (who are all big Nolan-Fans) ...1 loved it, 2 found it average and other 2 hated it.
2001 - Gravity + Altered States > Interstellar.
Also, my personal ranking for Nolan's movies:
1. The Dark Knight 2. Inception 3. Memento 4. The Prestige 5. Batman Begins 6. Insomnia 7. The Dark Knight Rises 8. Following
Interstellar could be somewhere between 4-6 (Top 3 is uncrackable!), need multiple viewings.

Just returned back from watching this movie.......
Hmm can't make up my mind if i liked it or not.....Some parts/concepts were confusing.....The entire team has put it a lot of effort & it shows on screen....No where near to Dark Knight, Inception & Prestige....
Still one time watchable.....frankly expected more from Nolan...So kindda disappointed & probably won't see it a second time from theatre ( Had watched TDK & Inception thrice from Theatre).........

My brother loved the movie and said it will blow my mind so that's gotten my hopes up again lol because generally I love everything he does (though not other way around haha). But he did say that there is quite a bit of sciency stuff so if people are not into that type of things they might not like it.

Woww...that was AMAZING. I really didn't have anything to worry about at all. I completely loved every minute of the movie. The style of the movie was very different and in some cases perhaps too realistic/sciency, but I didn't mind it still had a strong emotional core. And the space scenes were just stunning. I think visually this movie was such a great experience. Though having said that, I can definitely see why it might not be ranked as hihgly as some of Nolan's recent others, because I think this is not a movie for everyone, it's not as commercial as The Dark Knight or Inception, those were both thought provoking but also very entertaining and just 'fun'. This one is more along the lines of Memento and Prestige in style (though not story) because it is not so much a 'fun' movie so I think it will only really appeal to those who are specifically interested in this type of topic. I've always been interested in astronomy, other space stuff and also(BIG SPOILER here) time travel & multiple dimensions so the end especially after Cooper enters the black hole just had me in total awe.
Also the movie is very long and has a pretty slow pace, so that would also be boring for some. And actually even for me, often I'm not into slow paced movies, but here I didn't mind it at all. And because it's not as much a fun movie, it won't have as much repeat value as the others, though i would want to see it at least a couple more times. But after that, I might get sick of it, whereas i've seen Inception, and the Batman trilogy so many times, i've lost track. The music is phenomenal, I agree with pepper, Hans Zimmer deserves an Oscar for this. The acting is also amazing, so both these things lift up the movie a lot too. But my hats off to Chris Nolan, he is hands down the best director today. And also to Jonathan Nolan for writing this fabulous script. Technically I think this is one of Nolan's best maybe even the best, but if I go by my 'favourites' then because of the lack of several repeat watch it wouldn't be in my top 3 (Batman Begins, Inception, The Dark Knight)

Saw it for the 2nd time yesterday, and I'm still not sure what to make of it... Nolan was very ambitious and I give him loads of credit for it. But he made 3 different movies within one and he tried to fold them all together in the finale and it just didn't work for me.
My audience was all over the place for the film. Some were clearly bored, one guy even yelled at the screen at one point lol ...and I heard some people laughing near the end when the film was clearly going for an emotional punch. A lot, I think, felt like me. They didn't know what to really think. Then, there were some applause at the end. I hope the WOM is great though ...I think everyone should see this even if they end up disliking it.

Film is pretty amazing in last 30 minutes. Nolan is freaking amazing. Have no words left for explain his greatness. Did so much of it in last 24 hours .
All of colleagues loved it too. I am doing Physics, so I may be biased towards this kind of 5th dimension/ gravitational waves / time travel/black hole topics. I agree it's not for every one like Dark knight stories.
I personally didn't like Dr.Mann's track, yet movie is wow just wow. 5/5

One thing I really love about Nolan is how he tries to do as much as possible without CGI even in a movie like this. Some good behind the scenes for those itnerested:

But he made 3 different movies within one and he tried to fold them all together in the finale and it just didn't work for me. This is one comment I don't quite udnerstand, I never felt this was three movies. Everything was connected. It was multiple genres though yes and different styles. But that itself I feel like Nolan's always had a way of combining multiple genres into a movie, so it didn't really feel that different to me. This reminded me of The Prestige combining sci fi (almost fantasy) and real practical 'science' and especially the final act/ending is one that people could love or hate cause it could be considered as going against the reality of the movie until that point. With the prestige it was that there were actual clones and here the time travel aspect after Cooper goes through the black hole
. Even The Dark Knight, is like a comic book movie mixed in with crime, some of the movie feels completely different. The Dark Knight Rises is the same- first 45 minutes feel nothing like a superhero movie. Inception as well- mixing heist movie but then still has Cobb's personal story to it. You could almost say all of his movies mix things together.

I happen to be in Sydney on holiday and saw Interstellar in IMAX here on the supposedly world's biggest imax. And damn it was beyond amazing. Definitely enjoyed it more than on a normal screen.
also gotta day @pepper, my audience was great both times. Never had any inappropriate laughs. I think most were definitely enjoying the movie or hiding yheir disappointment.
My parents totally loved it too which was a nice surprise. I wasn't sure if the end would work for them.

I was disappointed because we had tickets to a free IMAX movie and we were going to see Interstellar last weekend, but it was all sold out for the night so the ticket went to waste We were only in the area for that night so we couldn't even save it for afterwards.

Saw it last night in IMAX and was spellbound by the movie. Magnificent all-round effort by Nolan. His handling of the character's relationships in the movie elevated it to a whole new level IMO. The science at times went over my head, but the emotional base was so engaging that it covered for everything. And the climax/ending was AWESOME. It was an ingenious idea and I really don't understand why people are complaining about it. I have read a lot of netizens complain that there is no way a black hole would contain what it did in the movie. Its a silly thing to complain about IMO, because don't think anyone knows whats actually inside a black hole. And it is a science FICTION movie. You just have to take a "leap of faith" sometimes
And while we are at rating Nolan's movies, my rating would be as follows: 1. Prestige 2. Inception 3. TDK 4. Interstellar 5. Memento 6. TDKR 7. Batman Begins 8. Insomnia

Watched it today. It was amazing and thought-provoking, though was a bit confusing at certain points. I wouldn't say it's up there with Nolan's best (TDK & Inception) but a great film nonetheless. I especially loved Anne Hathaway in the film.
Feel like seeing it again.

The one thing about this movie is - no matter whether I loved it as much as some of Nolan's other work or not, this one is staying in my head as much as Memento did. And that is SOME accomplishment. While here, might as well throw in my Nolan ratings:
1. Memento 2. The Prestige 3. The Dark Knight 4. Interstellar 5. Following 6. Insomnia 7. Batman Begins 8. Inception 9. TDKR

Adjusted list:
1. Interstellar 2. Prestige 3. TDK 4. Inception 5. Memento 6. TDKR 7. Batman Begins 8. Insomnia

Interstellar was good a typical Nolan Movie with lots of twists and turns. But nowhere near The Dark Knight its the ultimate one. Most of Nolan movies takes a while to sink you have to take a deep breath and give it 15 mins after the movie and then you sink in what he wants to tell you. He is quite good in doing that.

Having watched both TDK and Interstellar multiple times, imo Interstellar is the better product
TDK is absolutely brilliant and the social and ethical themes it explores are very interesting. Plus Heath Ledger's Joker elevated it to the next level
But Interstellar despite being a heavy, big budget sci-fi blockbuster had a very emotional story at its core - murph and cooper's relationship, murph's concern for tom and his family, brand's take on how love crosses space and time. Emotionally it was Nolan's strongest movie. And to top it off he just killed it with the sci-fi bits - on both the science and the fiction parts of it.
