I have been waiting and waiting, and now its finally here. As always supporting India primarily, although I dont have very high hopes given our abysmal current form. If not India, then SAF or NZ is my preference. riverpanthera - will you be watching any game in the stadium in NZ ?

Supporting the West Indies, of course. But no way they are even getting close. So, I would love it if an Amla-led RSA wins it. Then England and then Australia would be my preference.

Pretty sure ABD is the captain

^ I meant, as top-scorer for the tournament. I will take ABD too. My 2 favorite batsmen in the world right now, 2 classy players.

Looking at current form of India it will tough to qualify semis but can't ruled out. Hope it emerges top 2 team like 2003 wc after initial failure. For me srilanka looks more balance. RSA looks top on paper but get under pressure in crucial game mostly in quarters. If not India I like to see RSA should win Amla, ABD, steyn, miller, faf, morkel need to continue their form till end. Then my personal favorite West Indies. Hope Darren bravo, Simons, Kirk Edward get chance in playing eleven (bawling attack is weakest among top 8 teams) New Zealand too in top form especially Williamson (emerging one of the finest batsman after Martin crow), Taylor, Latham, Anderson, McCollum Milne, southee, Craig etc makes strong team.

I think this Australia tour has turned out to be a negative rather than a positive before the World Cup. By the time the tri-series started, the players were completely drained and some of them injured.
Never before has India gone into a World Cup with an unsettled side. There have been sides that are weak on paper, but here we don't even know who will be in the starting XI against Pakistan. Way too much doubt over the batting and bowling lineups. Only certainties are Rahane, Kohli, Dhoni and Raina. Even their positions are not fixed in any way. Kohli at no.3 or 4 ? Rahane at no.3 or as opener ? Raina at 4 or 5 ? Dhoni ??

^ Pushing Kohli to #4 reeks of Shastri man. And look at the logic behind this - he is very important to our plans and is our best batsman. So we need to protect him from the moving ball in these conditions. But if we get a good opening stand and the seam movement is nullified, then he will go up to #3. They are basically calling Kohli a hack with the bat. If you really are a good batsman, go out there and face the music. After all, who better than the team's best batsman to do the same. Its just classic India you know. It reminded me of 2 other instances - Raina would bat at #3 in ODIs in the subcontinent and rack up scores, but the moment India went to RSA, they recalled Dravid to play at #3 and Raina was moved down to #6. And recently, with Shastri saying something as appalling as "I don't care if we lose this test series, as long as we play with an aggressive mindset" or some such nonsense. I mean, coaches in the US will have been fired and would never find another gig for a thousand years if they said something even close to such nonsense.

I agree. Kohli at #4 is an absolute rubbish strategy IMO. He is clearly the best batsman in the side. Why would you have your best guy sit in the dressing room, instead of being out in the middle controlling the game. From what I understand, Kohli too wishes to bat at no.3 but Dhoni and management want more flexibility in the lineup.
And I was reminded of the Raina/Dravid episode as well. Also the Sachin at no.4 thing that Greg had forced upon him in 2007.
About the Test series comment by Shastri, well, that one at least had some sense to it. But that is a different discussion

Looking forward to it. I live in Australia so I'll be going to a few matches.
A big downside is that the group stage has a lot of matches featuring minnows (Ireland, Afghanistan, Scotland, Zimbabwe, UAE, Bangladesh) which will probably be boring to watch.

Yeah I am watching two games, the one in my home town ,which is the opening game -NZ vs Sri Lanka and then flying up to Auckland to see NZ vs Australia. Really excited about this WC, NZ have been in terrific form and if I had to predict the four semi finalists, I would say NZ, Aus, South Africa and perhaps England. And really I think it should be NZ in final the way we've been playing but you never know what happens in knockout games. Of course I want NZ to win my next choice would be South Africa. Those two in the final would be perfect really. Neither have been there before. I'm also going to the opening ceremony tomorrow, should be fun!

LOL I never thought I would say this - and I am not saying this because of this thing above - but Brendon McCullum has been the best thing to happen to NZ cricket captaincy since Stephen Fleming.

Hahaha thats awesome And Baz has indeed been invaluable to NZ. Especially since he got captaincy. yeah im so happy for him..hes always been my favourite player and I was so sad when his captaincy of kkr didn't go well at all but just thrilled of how hes done for NZ. And today was a big one cause how yoy perform in wirld cup under pressure is totally different and I don't think he's done too well in big tournaments like this in the past so to see him score some runs was great.

There seems to be some really flat tracks at this world cup (which isn't a good thing and a bit surprising since it's in Australia/NZ), the first four matches have produced 4 scores in excess of 300 and even Zimbabwe got close to 300 against South Africa.

True karan. the wickets have been very flat
And very good win for India. Bowlers somehow step up big time whenever we play Pak in world cup

NZ stadiums have such gorgeous and scenic backdrops. Just out of this world. Very few grounds come close when talking about pure scenic beauty - maybe Dharmsala and a few in SAF

Ireland have staked claim early in the tournament. Brushing aside WestIndies with so much ease, that it will definitely cause a major concern for the other group B teams. The moment they started batting, it looked like they would pull off the chase with ease. They just seemed so confident and sure of themselves.
Group B has to be the group of death. UAE is the only one that is almost certainly not going to make it to the QFs. All other Group B teams are in with an equal chance
