Thanks abhijacko, that was kind of you. I admire this owner's decision. He owns the cinema that has DDLJ on his screen once the day (at 11h)since its release and every time I was there, there were a lot of people who went to see it for 20 to 50 rupees. I really, really hope that ShahRukh stays away from manipulating tactics. His success should be a sincere one, not a fake one like the 50 crores of TOH's first day. Aamir's success is sincere as well. This is one deserved flop since it was a crappy movie but a lack at the past decade shows what a great run he has had. No manipulation needed whatsoever. And he wasn't the problem with this crap, the s***ty script and bad effects were

Only thing that was exposed is that people in india value content over starpower these days. SRK flopped last year, Aamir this year and even Salman's Race 3 did medicore at the BO (should have flopped completely tbh). People are already talking about Bollywood having a "Khan crisis" lol

Perception is an amazing thing. People keep saying that Akshay keeps playing the patriotism card over and over again in his movies, but Aamir is no less if you think about it Out of his last 15 movies, he has had Lagaan, Mangal Pandey, Rang De Basanti and Thugs in which he keeps on fighting the British one way or another. Dangal also made use of the patriotism angle full on. That is 1/3rd of his movies. He hardly takes any risks if you think about it. His supposedly "risky" characters are all set in safe movies. Such a hollow super stardom imo Safe movies aren't the problem if the content is good. And Aamir since a long time has been focused on mostly picking good scripts. Lagaan, RdB, 3 Idiots, PK, Dangal etc. are all quality movies that were well received. Meanwhile SRK passed on both 3 idiots and RDB (Wtf?) and made crap like Ra One, HNY, Dilwale and JHMS that wrecked his reputation. He dominated the 90's and 2000's and now this decade was a shell of his former self. If Aamir's stardom is hollow then SRK's is even more so. I don't think either is and SRK is the overall better actor, his problem is picking s***ty movies and not really adapting.

This whole thing about Aamir picking up great scripts is such a forced perception. He is in top form and cant do anything wrong, YES. But if we had to compare his last 4-5 movies with SRK's last 4-5 movies. I don't see how Aamir's choice of script is better than SRK's at this point. Aamir has had Talaash, Pk, Dhoom 3, Dangal, Thugs, Secret Superstar SRK has had Dilwale, JHMS, Fan, Raees, Dear Zindagi - and now coming up with ZERO. Only problem is SRK's good movies have been on very risky subjects (Fan, Raees and even DZ), while Aamir's have been on very crowd pleasing topics (Religion, Patriotism, Social problems) SRK is going through a downtime, I agree. And I am also open to the idea (as a hardcore SRK fan) that he might never fully recover from it. But I just dont buy this theory about Aamir focusing on good content only. Talaash, Thugs and Dhoom 3 are not good content!! D3 was absolute trash and Aamir's acting was absolutely horrible. Thugs was at the same level. One fired, one didnt. How is this good script sense? Looks like fluke to me SRK's stardom might be fading, but it was never based on fake perceptions. Not the same case with Aamir

Not the same case with Aamir Clearly he can do wrong, considering the deserved Thugs of hindustan flop lol. You have a point about Aamir's movies being more appealing in general but I think it has to do with quality as well. For an example Dangal was just overall better crafted than Fan, the latter really wasted a lot of potential in the second half and became too over the top and silly. I still prefer Chak de India to Dangal obviously. He has also only done two dumb masala movies (I agree Dhoom 3 was crap), meanwhile SRK has done at least 4 in the past few years. He was smart enough to let go of romance movies, SRK still just made a lackluster romance movie last year. I don't think it's a fluke, 3 Idiots, Dangal and PK are all way better than SRK's movies in this past decade. Only Raees comes close. I hope SRK recovers, I still prefer him over Aamir & the rest. But I can't deny that to at least an extent it's his own fault. If anything Salman's stardom is the undeserved one, dude has mostly made just s***ty action movies and somehow got so many Blockbusters this decade. Aamir tries way more imho.

As a producer though YRF has made some serious money with this film. Given their recent track record, it is also unlikely they are returning any money to anyone.

I think you are being too hard on Aamir (I know you aren't a fan but still). He has even apologized for Thugs in one of his interviews (since he disappointed people with it). Sure at the same time he is clearly a bit frustrated since Dhoom 3 worked and he was likely hoping to replicate it's success. None of these big stars can take failure that well though. I still remember SRK's reaction to the Ra One debacle. Or Salman Khan back when his movies flopped. Also Dhoom 3 didn't just work because of the franchise, the movie sucks ass no doubt but somehow it did have good WOM. Just the franchise name doesn't mean it would become the most successful BW movie ever (at that point). Audience is just unpredictable at times

I dont think I am being too hard at all The apology doesn't sound sincere at all - since he is very quickly shifting blame to the director. You cant take 'full responsibility' and then ditch it the next instance conveniently by pulling down the director. I actually agree with him that it was the director who tanked the movie big time, because it had a lot of potential to actually be another successful action franchise after Dhoom series. He sounds very contradictory

He sounds very contradictory Well why can't it be both, obviously the director is to blame for Thugs failure but since he was still the lead actor and involved so he also feels responsible. Just because he is blaming the director to an extent doesn't mean he isn't sincere with the apology. People basically expect good content from him since the likes of Rang de Basanti so he is frustrated that he let down people here. He does it in this interview too and he does seem genuine in my opinion: www.youtube.com/watch?v=ALr8GuZfKMU (first minute)

"He also feels responsible" isn't the same as "taking full responsibility", which may be abhijacko's point. One that I definitely agree with. Its the classic Aamir we have known over the years. Same reaction to every small thing that doesn't go his way.

In fairness to him, this had to happen at some point. You cant just keep giving hits after hits, he got away with D3 already.

Which he shouldn't have, Thugs wasn't really worse than that movie (both suck). The audience is just unpredictable at times
