I didn't even see a single trailer for this movie. My Friends wanted to go last night so i thought i'll check out the trailer before committing to this. Why do people in bollywood tolerate blatant plagiarism .. i'm not starting a debate on copying etc but check out this movie's trailer then go watch the 'Jai ho' trailer www.youtube.com/watch?v=_pCtXRP1edo

Pay it Forward was an inspiration for the movie Stalin in Telugu, whereas Jai Ho is a remake of the telugu movie.

It would be great if JaiHo finishes in range of Talaash

I watched it online (in good quality too). Rating: 4/10. It's another over the top masala fare that fails to convey its message effectively and even fails to entertain (I found my self skipping through scenes to reach the end).

All sorts of excuses coming for Jai Ho's under-performance. So from Salman is enough, it's now - no established heroine, no super-hit music and no holiday release etc. Read Taran's earlier tweet:
taran adarsh @taran_adarsh Jan 23 With such a massive screen count of #JaiHo [5000+ screens Worldwide], one should expect a record-breaking Day 1, opng wknd and Week 1.

I see the audience are getting tired of remakes that's for sure. There's completely no other reason than that. It's been a long time since we saw a pure HINDI masala film not a remake one.

elimeten - I think Chennai Express fits that category of non-remake Masala entertainer Also Dhoom 3, although that was a sequel. But I agree that these south-remakes are getting extremely stale and boring now. Have had a bunch of them fail now - Boss, RRajkumar, Jai Ho come to mind. Regardless we have a truckload of more remakes lined up for this year lol

Stalin was NOT a masala film.

Hmmm. Are you sure agantuk. I saw the first 10 minutes of STALIN yday - within a few minutes, Stalin enters the arena and there are bad guys flying around, lol. I closed it because I couldn't handle yet another OTT masala action.
Will try watching Pay It Forward this week now

abhijacko, it does have commercial elements, but a masala film has those in far larger quantities. Of course the producers couldn't afford to have Chiranjeevi not have some fight and dance sequences.

Ahh I see. So it is mellowed down compared to other south masala entertainers. Maybe I will plough through for another 20-30 minutes and see how it goes

It's disappointing that a film like this, which has a good message behind it that lots of people need to be reminded of, does less business at the box office than a ridiculous, over-the-top regular Salman movie. This one should have done well. The rest shouldn't have.

SRKFanatic, did you happen to catch the movie ? Share thoughts if you did. I am wondering if it is worth watching or not. From the reviews and trailers, it looks like its just a very poorly made movie

Yeah I saw it last night. The intentions of the movie are good, the message is inspiring. The problem is the execution. Too long, stretched too much in some places, none of the songs are worth a second listen/viewing, so they just feel like they are in the way. Tighter editing would have made it better.

Jai Ho Has Respectable Monday
Tuesday 28 January 2014 10.00 IST Box Office India Trade Network Jai Ho had respectable figures on Monday of around 9 crore nett as per early estimates. The film needed a bigger Monday to get towards that 150 crore nett total but 9 crore nett although not great is reasonable and less than 50% drop from Friday.. Jai Ho has now grossed around 67 crore nett in four days which is fair but due to the sort of initial business done by Dhoom 3 and Chennai Express higher figures are being expected today from big films like Jai Ho. The total for the week should go over 85 crore nett. The film held up best in Mumbai circuit with Gujarat remaining strong. Also the film has a decent trend and has actually been let down by the opening. The figures on Sunday and Monday are better comparatively better than the numbers of Friday and Saturday. The film has limited competition on Friday so can put up healthy figures in week two. boxofficeindia.com/Details/art_detail/jaihohasrespectablemonday#.UuhEPRDTnIU

I definitely will try.
About original ideas, I think there are a few good ones definitely. But the thing is, people like Salman Khan, who just rely on their screen presence rather than acting skills want to do only 'tried and tested' things. So they are not even bothering to go original at the risk of failing. Maybe Jai Ho's underperformance will be a wake up call for these guys

Girish Johar @girishjohar 21m "I feel", depending upon 2nd wknd & lifetime BO, #JaiHo should comfortably settle either in the 'Above Avg' or 'HIT' bracket !
Girish Johar @girishjohar 17m On economics front, only big negative is, though Producers make big monies, its distributors / presenters will b in -ve as they paid high

^I hope they cut the losses of the sub-distributors like how SRK did for Billu and Rajnikanth does. I think Salman would do this but Sohail definitely will not, the profit from this film is all he'll make for the rest of his life.

Jai Ho Drops Further On WednesdayThursday 30 January 2014 15.00 IST Box Office India Trade Network Jai Ho dropped further on Wednesday with collections around 5.25-5.50 crore nett. The collections on Monday were decent but it has seen rapid falls over the next two days and is now sure to collect less than 85 crore nett in its first week.
Its not a good sign for the second week as with these falls on Tuesday and Wednesday, a second week total of 30 crore nett or near that looks impossible. A 30 crore nett second week would have given the film a good final total. The only plus for the film is lack of competition this week but even that can only help so much with collections dropping at this rate. The collections at single screens are also not holding up that well.boxofficeindia.com/Details/art_detail/jaihodropsfurtheronwednesday#.UuspdvldX50It's a flop.

BOI called salman the no.1 to no.10 star before dabangg 2 and now his film coming after more than a year won't even be a hit. LOL. I know its wrong to laugh at someone's misfortune, and have a smirk on your face but I cant help myself with these Jai Ho results. I apologise for my rudeness Nothing wrong at all. The only misfortune is for the distributors who will suffer losses, salman and sohail made a record 110 crore profit from just selling the film. They called ra.one a flop but jai ho won't even cross ra.one with 1.5k more screens and higher ticket prices.

Goes to show Salman needs a top of the line heroine to make his film work big time...thinking he could give Daisy the lead role and pull it off was a huge mistake and the height of overconfidence on his part

^ Ayesha Takia, Asin and Sonakshi Sinha weren't exactly top lead actresses when they did their recent films with Salman. Like it or not, the presence of a certain lead actress does not have much impact on the box office prospects of a film in India
