elimeten - I think Chennai Express fits that category of non-remake Masala entertainer Also Dhoom 3, although that was a sequel. But I agree that these south-remakes are getting extremely stale and boring now. Have had a bunch of them fail now - Boss, RRajkumar, Jai Ho come to mind. Regardless we have a truckload of more remakes lined up for this year lol Off topic: CE was more into action comedy genre. Not exactly an "all-rounder" masala film like MHN or OSO were where they have a little bit of everything in it. On topic: Finally, Salman has a flop which he can be proud of or cry over. The audience are going to realized sooner or later that when a star limit himself by sticking to one genre, it will get boring and stale.

I still don't think it failed because people got bored. I will wait for Kick till I make a final judgement. If that film retains the essence of the original, nothing can stop it from being a huge hit

Jai Ho Has Ninth Highest First Week Of All Time
Friday 31 January 2014 12.30 IST Box Office India Trade Network Jai Ho had the ninth highest first week of all time as it grossed 83 crore nett in its first week. The film was decent on Monday but started to drop pretty fast from Tuesday onwards. The drops were pretty much universal
The first week is in the same range as Dabangg which was released nearly four years ago and was the start of Salman Khan's phenomenal run at the box office. The business is less than 50% of what Dhoom 3 did in its first week. Jai Ho has not done the expected business anywhere, Gujarat/Saurashtra is better than the rest of the country but even here the business is not fantastic and can be called good at best. Delhi/UP, East Punjab, West Bengal and Mysore even struggled with opening collctions. boxofficeindia.com/Details/art_detail/jaihohasninthhighestfirstweekofalltime#.Uuxo6_ldX51

Lol this movie made 3.25 cr (according to box office capsule) this film is doing very bad at the box office. And what's funny is that according to me it's just as bad as Salman's other films then why is this flopping

Jai Ho Second Friday BusinessSaturday 01 February 2014 11.30 IST Box Office India Trade Network Jai Ho grossed around 3 crore nett on its second Friday which is more than 80% down on last Friday. The total is now around 86 crore nett in eight days and the way the film is going it won't make it to 100 crore in before the weekend is out unless collections double up either on Saturday or Sunday. The film did not take a bumper opening but the the big holiday collections gave it a chance of a good total if it managed to sustain but that has not been the case. The second week practically being an open week has not helped much. Jai Ho is now looking at a finish of around 110 crore nett which means the lowest Salman Khan grosser in the last three years. boxofficeindia.com/Details/art_detail/jaihosecondfridaybusiness#.Uu3EZPldX50

2nd Week Saturday Box Office Collection Of JAI HO
Film collected 88.80 cr nett in week one and but film dropped heavily yesterday. Film managed poor numbers and collected only 3.10 cr nett. Film added 3.65 cr nett on Saturday and now total figure is 95 cr nett plus and will cross 100 cr nett by end of today or tomorrow. Film can now be termed as big disappointment as film is not going anywhere from here on. Even 120 cr nett is struggle now! www.boxofficecapsule.com/collection/2nd-Week-Saturday-Box-Office-Collection-Of-JAI-HO-2130

Jai Ho Grosses 95 Crore Plus In Ten DaysMonday 03 February 2014 11.00 IST Jai Ho collected 13.50 crore nett in its second weekend taking its ten day figure to a little over 95 crore nett. The fact that even after ten days it has not yet crossed 100 crore nett is disappointing. The second weekend saw a drop in collections of 75% plus. The film will have crossed 100 crore by the time the second week is over but it is not sustaining so a 110 crore nett total looks out of reach and the distributor share will not go much higher than 60 crore nett. The film showed growth on Saturday and Sunday but the drops in mid week had done the damage as the film ended up with a low second Friday and growth from there was a bit irrelevant for a film with such huge expectations. boxofficeindia.com/Details/art_detail/jaihogrosses95croreplusintendays#.UvA-RfldX50

The tide is turning against Salman. Just like it did with Akshay who delivered half a dozen "hits" (I shudder to call them that!)and then fell off the cliff. Salman has a much bigger following so it will take him longer to self-destruct, but looks like the writing's on the wall. Best he tries to flex his facial muscles in forthcoming movies rather than his biceps and pectorals.

They still wont declare it a 'Flop' will they ? Probably average or semi-hit or something ? Surely not a HIT

They still wont declare it a 'Flop' will they ? Probably average or semi-hit or something ? Surely not a HIT Won't be declared an outright flop. Most likely below-average from BOI and Taran will probably rate it higher as average.

So Salman's streak of hit after hit finally ends with only 5 hits in a row. SRK has 10 hits in a row now going on 11 with HNY. No one else is even close. Although to give credit where it is due, Salman did have 5 blockbusters in a row.

I think Kick will be another disappointment. But I am looking forward to Sooraj Barjatia's film. Those are my favorite Salman Khan film.
And yea, Salman did have 5 blockbusters in a row, BUT they were all in the same genre. SRK gave 10 hits in a row, all completely different from one another.

lol salman is going to overtake SRK and be no.1 on BOI's star ranking system despite the fact that jai ho is below-average/average at the box office. The main reason, in their words, is jai ho's 'good weekend total' when it was strictly average.

what can you say? Indian media is biased, and seems like they want to bring SRK down.

^ They're either pro-salman or their ranking criteria is messed up since the film will do half of SRK's CE and be a below-average. #screwlogic
Won't even cross 110 crores.
