^I felt the same way, I was surprised by the movie, gave it same rating as you I think. Thought it didn't look that good in trailer, but it was actually very good. I even read the books, however I must say, the later books were very disappointing to me so I hope they change some things for the movies otherwise they will not be that good either.

^^ nice. will check it out. There are some gems littered all over regional Indian cinema
On that note, have you seen Johnny Gaddar. I think it has to be one of my most favorite Bollywood thrillers. I would rate it higher than Kahaani

The Equaliser- nothing overly special but it sets out what it wants to do. I mainly went to see it cause of Denzel anyway. I was totally entertained, some great action scenes. Also Denzel is always great, and this was no different. But I was also impressed by the guy who plays Teddy, hadn't really seen him in much before- except maybe minor roles. 7/10

Gone Girl - 9/10This was the most terrifying movie I've seen in my entire life. I mean it was completely f*cked up and amazing. I’ve never watched a movie that had me on the edge of my seat for so long. I literally spent half the movie grabbing my armrest and whispering WHAT THE ACTUAL F*CK to the person next to me David Fincher has done it again. Rosamund Pike should win the oscar for best actress in a leading role. That Performance ...damn gurl

^ Wow, can't wait to watch this. On DVD sadly it will be for me. And I am shocked to hear about Rosamund Pike honestly. From whatever of her I have seen, I would easily call her the worst actor of her generation. So I am shocked.

No, I didn't and I'm really glad about that. I think that way the movie had an even bigger impact for me. However my best friend, who watched it with me and has read the book, said she really enjoyed my WTF reactions throuhgout the movie

Yeah true there are some pretty cool twists that would be spoiled in the movie if you read the book, but then again, they suprise you in the book, so you still get the shock and WTF reactions, just through a different medium so I personally dont' regret, I really loved reading this book.
Its a matter of opinion of course so I get why people want to keep the suprise for movie, but I tend to prefer reading books first and watching movies later if I plan on doing both. I think watching a movie somewhat spoils a book because it hinders your imagination with how characters look/ with how events occur etc so you don't get the full experience of reading a book. But reading a book doesn't really spoil the movie (apart from basic plot of course)as you are seeing someone else's vision not your own and just seeing the events of the book come to life on screen is still a great experience.
Although I know some people don't like reading books so obviously they only watch the movie which is fair enough too.

Saw it, and yeah it was brilliant, a pretty much perfect adaptation of a book as there can be, probably because the author herself wrote the screenplay but still a good author doesn't necessarily mean she will be a good screenplay writer, but Gillian Flynn has done an amazing job. I didn't think it would be an easy book to adapt as in the book there is a lot of stuff that is conveyed through non spoken stuff with a narrator, so I wasn't totally sure how they could do it because in a movie, it's a third person view while in the book it's all first person which makes a huge difference. Though they did still have voiceovers in movie for the diary entries which was a good thing, I think they wouldn't have had the right impact if they didn't, but there was a lack of hearing Nick's thoughts, but I think they did a good job of still conveying them in other ways.
Plus the direction by David Fincher and the performances do full justice to the writing. I agree with pepper, Rosamund Pike was just too good and definitely deserves at least a nomination I think and possibly the award. I didn't really know too much about her as an actress and she wasn't exactly what I had imagined AMy like so I wasn't too sure of her at first. But her performance definitely won me over.
Ben Affleck was also just great, though for me that was no surprise because from the trailer itself he was pretty much exactly how i imagined Nick Dunne would be like and he didn't disappoint.

The Maze Runner- 8/10 A brilliant adaptation of the book, in fact the only real flaws with the movie are probably flaws with the book, and maybe one or two changes that didn't make sense like the maze should have been underground like the book and the sky should have been fake, that explained better why they couldn't climb the walls. I love the design of the maze and i really liked all the actors they picked especially the lead was pretty much exactly how I imagined Thomas. I think this is the best first movie in a young adult series since Harry Potter.

A Prophet
A Prophet is a major epic set in a French prison in which a young Corsican-Arab man is recruited into the ruling white mafia and ultimately plays everyone in order to become a gang warlord of sorts for himself.
Perfect acting, scenario, directing, cinematography & sound...
This is definitely not a Hollywood production, but the best of what french cinema can be.
The main actor Tahar Rahim is a revelation, keep an eye on him in the future.
Niels Arestrup is also quite good in his role as a corsican crime boss

Just came back from watching Mockingjay Pt1 ...
I feel emotionally compromised by this movie …it was so painful and intense, but sooo amazing. The cast and crew deserve all the awards, wow. I think this might be my favourite of the 3 movies so far. Not really surprised, as Mockingjay is by far my favourite book in the trilogy and although this was just the first half of it, it was a flawless adaptation. God bless Francis Lawrence. The best thing that could happen to this franchise (besides JLaw of course ).
{Spoiler} Finally. After years of imagining what Annie and Finnick’s reunion would look like in my head, I finally got to watch it on screen. And it was glorious. Also, the Hanging Tree part gave me chills. So good. And the last scenes between Peeta and Katniss ...man that was intense …holy s***. Kudos to Josh and Jennifer for the A+++ acting. Seeing it again on Saturday with a bunch of people, who haven't read the book Can’t wait to hear their shocked gasps and screams to certain scenes
Rating 9/10

Mockingjay part 1 - 6/10
Thought it was quite average and not as good/exciting as the first two films.

I also saw Hunger Games:mockinjay, I was somewhat distracted by my friend because he hadn't seen the first two so I had to explain stuff to him, and I don't think he was really enjoying it lol so kept making comments, so I think I would need to see it again to properly judge it.
But I think it was overall a good movie-adaptation. The book itself I think doesn't really deserve to be split into two movies, it's not that long, and some things could easily be cut. So that definitely went against the movie, as it doesn't feel complete and also it feels at points like not much really happened. However, part of the fault is the book, which IMO wasn't that great written to begin with.
So if I forgive the split of the book and allow for the flaws of the book, I think they really did a very good job with what they actually had available to adapt. The acting was definitely great, Jennifer Lawrence was expected, but I was pretty impressed by Josh Hutcherson, he's been fairly uneven until now.

Saw an early screening of Exodus. Was pretty decent. Some stunning visuals, especially the wide shots - 7/10. Underwhelming ending though. I only knew the basics about the story of Exodus, and the movie kept it pretty basic too. One weird oddity about the movie I found - They did a very poor job of giving insights into God's actions. Why inflict horrible plagues on millions of people just because of Pharaoh and a few other guys not believing in God ? I ended up feeling more for the plague ridden people of Egypt than I did for the Slaves. Not sure if that was the intention, or if that is how the story actually is.

There are several times Pharaoh has decided to let the Israelites go and Yahweh "hardens Pharaoh's heart" to make him keep them. It's perplexing and pretty awful; a lot of people die needlessly.

Hobbit 3 - 9.5/10 - easily the best of the 3 hobbit movies
Absolutely LOVED it. The editing issues the first two movies had were fixed. 30 minutes into the movie, the battle starts and it is an absolute thrill ride. The battle scenes and fight choreography is fab. Middle Earth looks as magnificent as it ever has.
And the emotional ending is the icing on the cake.
Watched it 3D (dint have a choice) - dint contribute much to the movie and would have loved to watch it in non-3D

Exodus - 6/10 Was hesitant to watch it because of the bad reviews but only watched it because of Christian Bale and that there weren't much other movies playing. It was strictly decent, nothing great. The climax and ending was underwhelming.

He's indeed #TheGreatGatsby. Nice movie. #LEONARDO alwayz the #TragicHero. Made me cry a bit. On aside, wat the hell was Amitabh doing in this movie. His appearance in the movie is truely an insult to his personality and bollywood. He shouldn't have done the film just because he wants to debut in Hollywood. I think he should go rest now. His role truely lacks significance. Leonardo is very great amazing actor.
I'm sorry, I couldn't find this movie thread so decided to create one to show my appreciation for the movie. If the thread exist, please forgive me.

Gone Girl 9.5/10
Great movie..... Always loved Rosamund pike, but this is by far her best performance....She is quintessential ice queen, and she was perfect in this role. In another era, she prolly would have been one of Hitchcock's main ladies. Oscar worthy s***. Im glad she finally got the lead role in a major film. Let's hope this will put her on the A list from now on.
Great acting all around, even from Ben Affleck. Only Neil patrick harris was totally miscast. Appreciated the twist( can't say anymore, no Spoiler)....Definitely filcher's best film...Must see

Eastern Promises - 2007
It's been a couple of years since I wanted to watch this film and somehow I forgot! Loved the film. Viggo Mortensen is one of my favorites! Great actor, and he has this sexy aura around him! A deep one.

Did anyone catch the Interview after all the hoopla ?
I was going to watch it before the hack happened. Then the whole situation of cancelling release and then eventually releasing on XMAS turned me off.

The Hobbit: the Battle of Five armies- seen it twice already, once in 3D and once in 2D, loved it equally both times. i think it's probably the best of the Hobbit series. I really love Lee Pace as Thranduil especially. But others as well- Martin is always so good at giving these 'understated' type performances. And Richard Armitrage did really well with Thorin especially when he is being affected by the dragon sickness and is going kinda mad . I'm not as into Luke Evans as others seem to be, not that he was bad, he did well too.

Frank - 5/10
Had heard good things about it (92% on rottentomaoes :S). Found it very dull and mediocre. Story about a group of no-names and a social-media-obsessed, untalented hack. It was a case of vague and quirky for the sake of it.

The Imitation Game (5 Stars)
Saw this last night - absolutely outstanding! Amazing (true) story with brilliant acting and extremely moving.
From the first scene it's obvious the main character has Aspergers Syndrome, though its never stated, and a couple of lines made me think the script-writers had perhaps seen MNIK.
