^People like trashy masala s***. It always works no matter what. The BW audience deserves nothing else if this is the type of stuff they want to watch. They look for logic and loopholes when something new is tried but sit back and hoot and whistle when the same type of basic movie is made over and over again whether it's Simba or Rowdy Rathore or Singham or whatever.
Let them enjoy. These are the types of movies they deserve until they end up killing the whole industry.
There's a video going around of Taran Adarsh dancing with Ranveer and Rohit and them kissing his cheeks and hands. These are the kind of reviewers we have in BW. Corrupt and sold out.

Another review gives this 4. And also praises Ranveer as the next big thing. LOL. Sure. Exactly the type of bias I was referring to earlier.

Karan has the critics in his pocket. And Ranveer is repulsive. Just check out that video with Taran. Karan has found the perfect wacko to do nautanki with him. He tried with Ranbir but Ranbir is not sociable enough to pull off stuff like this.

Would be interesting who of the critics who trashed Zero is now lauding Simmba...and with what arguments.
I guess that Rohit knew beforehand that Taran would give a good review, but I suppose Ranveer did not know it and was genuinely happy for the good verdict.
I'm tempted to believe that Karan indeed tried to sabotage Ajay Devgn's movie as Ajay alleged and KRK stated...

So much for only "content driven" and deeper movies being well received from now on.. BW critics are a joke. It will be ridiculous if this crap is more successful than Zero but that will sadly happen

faneu , just for information: Did you watch Simmba? No but I have watched many Rohit shetty movies..at best they are mindless fun with no depth, at worst they are actually s***. From the trailers it looks exactly the same as his previous movies so that's why I'm judging it already.

^I'm okay with mindless fun. If people want to watch brainless movies, it's their choice. But Simmba is disgusting in a different way. They are using and exploiting rape as a way to turn Ranveer into a hero. This must be the first movie that boasts about women's empowerment while not given any role to any women, not even to the female lead. The whole thing is random men shouting and giving lectures about women's safety and beating people up.

'Simmba' Movie Review: Ranveer Singh's 'Women Empowerment' Drama Barely Has Any Notable Parts For, Umm, Women
The film fetishes police anarchy and reduces women to stock characters that exist solely to aid their male saviour.
In one of the scenes in Rohit Shetty’s Simmba, Ranveer Singh, who is a morally corrupt cop before turning into an anarchic one, is seen beating a man guilty of raping and murdering a young woman. As he kicks and punches the goon black and blue, Singh is heard chanting, “she was my sister, she was my sister” before he’s restrained from killing the guy.
That one scene encapsulates how problematic Simmba is.
This is a movie that views women only in the context of their relationship with men, even when they are literally unrelated.
This is a movie where women are helpless beings whose honour and dignity are violated and restored by men.
This is a movie that sees no irony in blaming and shaming an elderly woman character for raising her sons the ‘wrong way’ because they turned out to be rapists and murderers.
This is a movie where there isn’t a single female character with more than 15 minutes of total speaking time, even if you account for the entire duration of the movie.
This is a movie that fetishes violence and anarchy as a rightful means to seek justice.
This is a movie where a cop actually guilt-trips a sessions court judge by suggesting what if it was her daughter who had been raped.
The sentence ‘rape hua hai, rape’ is repeated so often at varying decibel levels that it loses its effect and begins to feel like a commercial trope exploited by a filmmaker who doesn’t sees the multiple layers of irony in his own movie.
So basically, Simmba is a recycled version of one of those problematic 80s Bollywood potboiler where the angry young man turns into a violent vigilante for women who exist solely to be protected from other men. So obviously, it’s likely to become a blockbuster, because in India, patriarchy never goes out of fashion.
For Singh’s Simmba, every female character is a maa-behen-beti or a potential biwi. And Shetty’s idea of women empowerment is having stock female characters who supplement the man as he goes about redeeming his past sins by turning into a saviour.
In fact, the male saviour complex is so severe in Simmba that not one or two but three men of varying stardom finally occupy the screen, delivering sermons about women safety and using it to justify extra judicial killings as a legitimate means of securing justice.
While Simmba exists within the paradigm of the conventional masala Bollywood movie, it embodies and celebrates archaic and discarded ideas, without any sense of interrogation or self-reflection. Sure, the movie is interested in making points about the judicial failure of the country but suggesting that the only other alternative is to turn into an anarchic state instead of examining the failures of the legal system is juvenile and regressive.
What Shetty is doing, and he’s well aware of it, is catering to populist rage and giving it a violent outlet through Singh’s endearing character. But retribution, it has been established, isn’t justice, only a sterilised version of revenge.
And well, if you can leave aside the film’s fundamental problems, which you shouldn’t, Singh delivers a performance he was perhaps born to do, an exaggerated version of the over-the-top public persona he has adopted.
Sara Ali Khan, last seen only weeks ago in Kedarnath, has precious little to do and is reduced to packing dabbas. In the film’s second half, one almost forgets she’s even in the movie and that’s a shame. The actress should learn from the success of Alia Bhatt (she chose Highway as her second film) and the mistakes and failures of Parineeti Chopra, once a promising actress who, in the quest for mainstream recognition, disappeared in an abyss of forgettable roles in even more forgettable films.
There’s also Ashutosh Rana, who hams so hard, it feels like his character is on the verge of having a fatal brain haemorrhage. Sonu Sood, the film’s main ‘villain’, is appropriately cast and Shetty ensures the camera zooms in on his bloodshot eyes when he wants to cue 'emotion rage'.
But ultimately this is a film designed solely for Ranveer Singh who delivers a performance so loud it can only be described as an antithesis to his beautifully understated act in Lootera. This is the kind of film that’ll instantly turn him into a single screen superstar, similar to what the Dabangg films did for Salman Khan. It’s the kind of role that elicits claps, wolf-whistles and WhatsApp forwards.
As for the treatment, Simmba is alarmingly boisterous and woefully loud as Shetty’s visual style is unapologetically 80s, with the frenetic pace of a Southern potboiler.
Right from the melodramatic dialogues and tragic backstories (poor orphan becomes a petty thief and corrupt cop before atoning himself for past misdeeds) to the dated directorial style (when Singh beats up a rapist, the scene cuts into flashes of the murdered woman. Because of course.), this is practically an 80s film repackaged for the WhatsApp generation.
At times, the film feels so ridiculously tacky and bad it actually becomes good in an ironical way. Most will say it’s a leave-your-brains behind kind of an entertainer, but hey, you have a brain for a reason, so don’t leave it behind but maybe use it and make the decision of leaving behind the movie instead.

This film is receiving glowing reviews - well beyond what I had expected. All on a sudden Rohit Shetty is being called the Manmohan Desai (I agree), but this volte face from the reviewers is nauseating double standards. Just wait for his next film with Akshay or Ajay and they will be back to their harping

^Akshay and Ajay should also wine and dine Taran then. Feed him good food, invite him to trials, suck up, kiss his cheeks, etc.
But mostly, it's because of Karan. Dharma films never get bad reviews. I think even trash like Brothers got decent to good reviews. His own trash films like ADHM should have gotten nothing above 2 stars but he manages to pull in 4 and 5 stars. The guy knows how to suck up or he's straight out paying them off.

tina Do you have a link to the review you posted? Who wrote it? Yeah, a lot of hyper praise. And I'm sure the audience won't stand behind and mostly join the praise... All in all, it will be a kind of counterbalance to Zero with Ranveer hyped as the next superstar replacing ShahRukh.
Oh, I think, Karan is his own best friend...but I think some equations have changed after the publication of the book.

This is why the reviews are overly good. The media did the same exact stuff when Hrithik came. Even then SRK was trying to do different stuff like launch his production company and making movies like PBDHH and Asoka. They would try to compare his different attempts with the generic stuff Hrithik was making. The one thing I've learned is that BW does not like ambitious people, especially successful ambitious people, that too ones from the outside. They are always waiting with their knives. But don't worry, unlike the doom and gloom here, I think SRK is fine. Of course age hurts everyone but he will figure out his path. Nobody knows how to survive better than him.

I saw some videos of SRK visiting Patna today. This is not even the big sleek city crowd and people were going crazy for him. SRK is at the point where people love him but not his movies. It's time to correct that and just give them what they want. All the experiments are useless if people don't want to give them a chance.

Yeah this does feel similiar to that time, I remember people acting like SRK was done for good and Hrithik was the new Nr.1. But SRK came back strong pretty soon and enjoyed many good years, Hrithik wasn't even close. Hopefully the same happens again but sadly this bad phase has been going on for much longer already (like 4 years at least) and age is catching with him. And with how important social media is these days the hate circlejerk for SRK is stronger as well. Ranveer is quite young and only getting more popular.

What people want isn't easy to answer..especially when it's about SRK. Remember how much HNY and Dilwale were trashed and people wanted SRK to do different things? Then he does that with stuff like Fan and Zero..and they flop hard. At this point it seems like no matter what SRK does the GA doesn't care. Also regarding the visit..more likely just hardcore fans. SRK's popularity overall has declined, his movies don't even have big openings anymore

^Well technically, Ranveer has already been hanging around for like 7 or 8 years unlike Hrithik and has barely made any impact until now. People like SRK and Salman and Aamir had already achieved so much in 7 or 8 years. Today's stars don't even come close. SRK arrived in 93 and by 2001, he had already had so many hits, so many awards, his own production company and even a wife and two kids.
SRK has no direct competition with the new generation so it shouldn't even be stated that way. There's a 20 years difference between them. If SRK was 33, he would have whipped the likes of Ranveer so hard and they wouldn't have known what hit them. SRK was/is a supernova compared to these guys.
At 53, it's natural that things would be different but he will still be be a force in some way 10 years later. I wouldn't give the same guarantee for any of the young guys now. Look at what happened to Hrithik. Meanwhile, new actors will keep debuting who will start giving competition to the Ranveer/Ranbir types.
The only thing I want is for SRK to adopt his aggressive temperament again. Maybe he is too content now and too easygoing. But it's time to wake up that beast inside. SRK is always best when he's fighting back as an underdog. Stop being so docile and so nice. This is not the SRK we knew for so many years.

And no, his popularity hasn't declined. Just three years ago, he whipped Ranveer silly with the opening numbers of Dilwale opposite a Bhansali movie who already had a track record with Ranveer. Different movies always open lower so Zero's opening is not a problem. Even at his peak, movies like Swades and Chak De opened low because people assumed they wouldn't like them.

You know SRK's popularity has declined when people aren't afraid anymore of clashes against him and even win/come out well. Zero's opening isn't a good sign, on star power alone it should have openend bigger imho. Its not like those two movies at all, it has typical cheesy bollywood songs (even an unnecessary item songs), two attractive heroine's who are some of the most popular BW actresses right now and overall it's definitely meant to appeal to more people I do agree that the likes of Ranveer etc. will never be as iconic as SRK or the other Khans

Nobody has any control of the final numbers a movie ends up at because that depends on whether or not the content was accepted by the public. In opening numbers, Bajirao was a joke compared to Dilwale. SRK has always had clashes. Even movies like Devdas and Kuch Kuch Hota Hai released in clashes. So did Don opposite a Salman/Akshay movie and completely destroyed it. Nothing has changed in that regard. And unusual movies all open on the low end. 20 crores is still pretty decent in that regard. The item number was just in the background for a few seconds. Did you even watch Zero? I'm seriously getting the feeling that you saw a pirated copy and are enjoying pulling him down.

Dilwale came after CE and HNY, both very succesful movies. Thats why the opening for Dilwale was still great. Now Zero came out after Dilwale and Raees underperformed and JHMS & Fan flopped. Thats why Zero had a weak opening. Zero isn't that unusual, trailers hyped up a fun romance movie with three popular actors. Item song and the one with Salman Khan were both pushed a lot before release as well. The difference is that SRK used to beat the other movies easily, now things have changed and BM beat Dilwale and Raees struggled against Kaabil. Yeah I did and while I think many are being too hard, the second half still sucked and was a mistake. SRK was A+ but a great actor can't save a bad script. You were constantly trashing the movie and SRK's script choices and are the one who suddenly shifted into "screw the BW audience" mode. And I get that to an extent and still wish Zero was succesful but the movie was quite flawed. It's betterthan JHMS at least but way worse than Fan and Raees I'm not the one pulling SRK down...just facing the harsh truth about his decline

And I get that to an extent and still wish Zero was succesful but the movie was quite flawed. It's betterthan JHMS at least but way worse than Fan and Raees I'm not the one pulling SRK down...just facing the harsh truth about his decline Zero was extremely unusual. A movie where the protagonist is a dwarf and the lead actress is handicapped and can't even speak clearly is extremely unusual for a mainstream BW movie. Even a National award winning critic pointed out how weird and audacious this movie was. Cameos add nothing and do not bring in any crowds and the industry also needs to understand that. SRK's cameo in Tubelight didn't do anything either. People can see these actors anywhere. Nobody cares or pays money to see the same thing that's already on youtube anyway. So now you have more excuses for Dilwale which made Bajirao look like a joke opening weekend. Raees did not struggle against Kaabil. It must have happened in your imagination because it didn't happen in reality. Kaabil had an extremely poor opening compared to Raees and did not even get half the numbers. He has easily beaten everyone in a clash including and up to last year. Actors can only provide openings and the rest depends on how accepted or not the movie is. Openings are also of course based on genre and other things too. A masala movie is much easier to open for any actor than something different. Zero is problematic and has various issues but still is better than 90% of what comes out of mainstream BW. No, you aren't facing any truth. It's becoming more and more obvious from your belligerence that you are gleefully tearing him apart and that also with misinformation.

I really liked Ranveer as an actor. I think he is great. I found him not OTT in the trailer like all actors are in Rohit's movies. I like Ranbir as well, but he cant do commercial movies but Ranveer can do both.
This is not my type of movie, so will watch later on DVD. But I am happy for Ranveer, really enjoyed his recent work.
Comparison between him and SRK is laugh worthy. They are good 20 years apart and has nothing in common. What is the need to bring young guys down against SRK. They are getting popular and still far behind Khans. whether they get such status or not, its in future.
