Anyone watched Golden Globes Awards? I heard it was a major snooze-fest with the hosts being overly nice.
I wish they would have the guts to bring back Ricky Gervais. He was brilliant from a viewer point of view

^ So were Fey and Poehler. The Globes weren't fun.

Probably the worst Golden Globes I've ever seen. Imagine unironically thinking Bohemian Rhapsody was the pinnacle of dramatic cinema this year ...

The fact that Black Panther was even nominated for "Best Drama" was already the biggest joke lol Yeah it was only nominated because of the cast and the heavy handed message of the movie, quality wise it was at best an average superhero movie and very flawed. I just hope the oscars aren't dumb enough to nominate it but who knows with Hollywood these days

Also I've seen a bunch of movies over the past few weeks:
Aquaman was very enjoyable. Stunning visuals. 7/10
Into the Spider-Verse - Loved it. Best Spider-Man film since Raimi's Spider-Man2 8/10
Mary Poppins Returns - I adore Emily Blunt, but this was really bad. Or maybe just not my cup of tea lol
Widows - Great movie. A masterful crime suspense heist movie. The car scene with Colin Farrell is legendary 9/10
Bumblebee - Surprise of the year! What a beautiful movie! And most importantly it feels like a Transformers movie, something someone like Michael Bay sadly never understood. My inner 80s child was screaming with Joy. The Soundtrack is fire!!

Also saw Spiderman into the spiderverse sometime back. Top film.
I'm all for more superhero movies. They're good fun for the most part (especially those from the MCU).

I'm a MCU fan but after a while a good amount of the movies do start to feel similiar, especially the origin movies. There are many great superhero movies here like IM1, Avengers 1, TWS, GotG, CW, Ragnarok and IW (the Russo's are the best MCU directors for me, by far). But movies like IM2-3, Doctor Strange, Ant-Man are while fun kind of generic imho. And now that they will be introducing so many more new characters since the OG cast is likely done, I'm not really that interested anymore. Regarding the DCEU, it has been a huge trainwreck apart from WW and now Aquaman. They butchered Superman and Batman which is just disappointing (so much so that their next movies aren't even confirmed yet). I enjoyed Fox's X-Men movies like X-Men 2, DoFP and especially Logan a lot but they were very inconsistent (no real continuity, complete trainwrecks like Last Stand, Origins etc.) and are done anyway.

I love the MCU. I have enjoyed almost every film (possibly Hulk is the only exception), I love all the characters and the casting has been spot on. I am a huge Antman fan (love Paul Rudd in the role), he is so unique in this universe where you have super smart tech guys, enhanced people, aliens and Gods, he is a common man who chanced upon a suit made by someone else. He represents the common man, us.
DCEU, past is past, I am looking forward to Shazam. But will WB ever get Superman right. I did not like Man of Steel one bit, it felt like watching Batman in Superman suit. And what they have done to him in the TV show Supergirl is just shameful. I had to go back to watch Christopher Reeves Superman, to see this character in his element. There was so many Superheroes now, but for me when I hear the word Superhero, there is just one image that pops in my head, that is Superman with his huge 'S' and red cap. He is the ultimate as far as I am concerned.
X-Men, I always saw each film as standalone. There was never any continuity except the cast and I was ok with it. Days of future past is my favorite movie with Logan. However I do not have much hope for the next Dark Phoenix movie, the actress now cast as Jane, I find her very unimpressive. I have seen her in a couple of things and I don't like her at all.
I really enjoyed Spiderman: Into the spiderverse. The animation style was very different and fresh for me. I think it was an awesome story. Who loved Spider-Ham (Peter Porker)? The was hilarious.

True, probably the most consistent phase so far. CW, IW and Ragnarok were especially amazing.

Venom may be a terrible (comic book) movie but it's so much fun to watch, especially if you think of it as a rom-com and don't take it seriously lol. Tom Hardy is a babe, so I'm glad the movie did well at the BO.

Glass (2019)
I loved this movie. I had not seen any promos, no spoilers of any kind. I did not know what to expect from this one. And what I got was so new, so fresh, so different especially the ending (may even come across as anticlimactic). This film falls under the Superhero Umbrella and these days there is an expectation for big action set pieces but I knew there weren't going to be huge action scenes because Unbreakable (2000) and Split (2016) also did not have those. This film may not be for everyone but it was for me, I came out of the cinemas a very satisfied viewer. The performances are so strong in this film, James McAvoy (what planet are you from?), just saying the name, I don't have enough words for this man.

Best picture nomination for Black Panther.. Haha

Complete joke really..shows that the Oscars care more for politics & representation than the actual quality of the movie. Bohemian Rhapsody getting nominated is a big joke too, that movie was really lackluster
And people always say Bollywood awards are a joke, oscars aren't much better

Black Panther deserves a nomination, same as Dark Night deserved one years back but didn't get it.

Disagree..The Dark Knight was a far superior movie in every way and definitely deserved a nomination. Black Panther isn't even the best MCU movie this year (Infinity War is). It's pretty clear why it got so many great reviews and now nominations at important award shows..and it's not the quality of the movie.

TDK is light years ahead of Black Panther in almost every aspect - movie, script, story, performances, music, etc. Black Panther is as generic a superhero movie as can be. The acting was mediocre to good. I found AntMan 2 to be a lot more engaging story with better performances, and I dont rate that movie high at all
The only breakthrough for BP is the narrative of the first Black superhero getting his own standalone movie. That too after 20 odd movies in the same universe. Well done Disney/Marvel for this "accomplishment", but Oscars are about QUALITY movies, not gimmicky political statements. Or atleast, that was the case a decade ago

The cultural impact of Black Panther was huge so that played a big role in it getting a nomination. Any how, it's not the only undeserving nomination. But people are outraging like it's the end of the world.

Was re-watching Captain America: Civil War just now. Black Panther (T'Challa) was such a cool character in this movie - perfect intro. His actions scenes were so refreshing. Which is why I was so looking forward to watching him again in Black Panther. But was barely as charming or interesting in BP. There was so much potential in that movie, because the setup and the music was amazing

There was so much potential in that movie, because the setup and the music was amazing I agree, I was disappointed with how lackluster Black Panther was in his own movie. He was completely overshadowed by the side characters and villian, barely did anything memorable and was just kind of bland. In CW meanwhile he had a compelling arc and despite limited screentime left an impact. One of the reasons Black Panther was underwhelming for me. Btw CW is definitely one of my favourite MCU movies, the Russo brothers always deliver.
