Finally caught up with a couple of 2015 movies.
NH10 - 8.5/10 Was a really good thriller. Dark, gritty and disturbing, mainly because it felt so real. Anushka was absolutely wonderful. Wish she would do more such challenging roles which compliment her acting abilities. The support cast was very good as well. Direction and editing were very tight. One of the best movies this year.
Badlapur - 7.5/10 Another dark, gritty thriller about revenge, although the ending was a bit unsatisfying and abrupt. Easily Varun's best work and yet he failed to leave an effective mark on me as a viewer despite the playing an intense character. Nawazuddin was very good. As was the supporting cast. A return to form for Sriram Raghavan after an very poor big budget outing with Agent Vinod. He should stick to his medium budget thrillers which lets him focus on the storytelling

I did like the end, I just felt like the resolution could have played it in a more gradual fashion. Thats what I meant by abrupt.

Gangaajal - 7.5/10A good and engaging crime thriller. The ending is abrupt though. Pretty late for Gangajal. Its a typical Prakash Jha Movie with Bihar in his mind while directing but my rating for it is 8.5/10 but will somehow agree that ending could have been better but thats always the case with all Prakash Jah movies ending will be abrupt and sudden and sometimes it kills the movie. Satyagrah Ending was pretty bad although overall movie was decent.

I know its pretty late in the day, but i finally attempted to watch Tanu Weds Manu Returns. Now i know why it took me so long to try and watch it. I couldnt finish the film , as i found it to be a complete yawnfest. Kangana is annoying at the best of times, but as Datto, it was a new level of irritating!. The lead pair was uninteresting and songs, well, i cant really remember any of them.

I know everyone has opinions and his or her own liking/disliking. Only one question have you seen Tanu Weds Manu (First movie) because second part makes a lot of sense only when you have seen the first one. Its gets its characters, its essence and a lot more to Part 1 ?

I know Tanu Weds Manu (1/2) gets a lot of love on this forum, but I am not surprised with srklover's review. A couple of my friends said similar things about how Kangana is good in parts while very OTT in others. Also there is absolutely no chemistry between the lead pairs - Madhavan was out of form (and these are hardcore Maddy fans)
And seeing the trailers of the two movies, I just never felt the urge to watch it. Something about Kangana is very off putting for me. Which is why I have probably avoided watching Queen as well

Mainly the screenplay needed to be tighter. There's parts in the film that are overstretched and there's not much happening. The ending, as you said, was somewhat abrupt and unsatisfying. Agree about Varun. The role was good but his acting was average. Expressions and voice modulation were lacking quite a bit.

One very good thing about Badlapur was Sriram Raghavan going back to what he does best - small to medium budget thrillers with tight execution. His Ek Hasina Thi and Johnny Gaddar are two of my favorite movies of all time. Dark thrillers infused with dark humor, and more often than not a good story to tell
He got carried away with the big budget of Agent Vinod where he was forced to add those extra frills and eventually turned it into a travel show. But good to see he is back. Waiting for whatever he has planned next

i'd give Badlapur a 9/10. i honestly really loved it. was spectacular to see Varun in that role. Nawazuddin was excellent but i am used to him giving great performances and just cannot wait to see him opposite Shahrukh in Raees. it's funny that before Dilwale i hadn't seen any of Varun's work and still i really saw potential in him, whilst Dilwale is probably the film in which he gives an average perfomance, at least compared to what else he's done. i can really see him going places. to me, he's the best from his generation. i actually like him more than Ranbir, although it's a bit outstretched in terms of experience and even generation.

Watched Hero on sunday evening as a time pass and thats exactly what it was. Sooraj and Athiya was completely wooden , which showed even more, when compared with the seasoned tv actors who played her brother and sister in law.
editing was pretty bad too, one minute she was is Paris and the next minute she was back in India!.

Kapoor and Sons - 8/10.
What a sweet cozy film. all of them were so good. I love Ratna P Shah. She was fabulous.
Connor is such a beautiful place. Brought back so many childhood memories. made me wanna go to Connoor and Ooty, freezing and have tea in those tiny glasses and just take in all that gorgeousness.
i loved Fawad Khan. Not your typical hero but soooooo dreamy. lol i hope he does more movies.

Finding Fanny - 8/10
Very very funny. I was laughing almost hysterically in some places. Naseer and Pankaj are an absolute riot. Even Arjun was quite tolerable. Deepika Padukone is hands down the best actress right now. Loved it.

Kapoor & Sons 9/10
I was dragged by my family who wanted to watch it, i am glad i went along ! what an amazing film ! realistic yet so endearing, Rishi and Ratna were amazing, Fawad is outstanding, Alia shines, Siddhart is ok, but the star of this film is without a doubt director Shakun Batra ! He captures the dysfunctional family subject in a manner which actually feels very normal and one is so able to relate to it ( i am talking to you Zoya) Coonoor is just breathtaking
Now this film deserve the title: Family Entertainer
a dark horse for best film of the year IMO

Airlift 8/10
Great film, very emotional and well acted, arguably Akki's best performance till date.

Loved Kapoor and Sons too. Fantastic movie. Good performances by almost everyone (barring Sid. Guy needs acting lessons). Direction and writing team should get the biggest props though. Very well knit movie - 8/10
Really enjoyed Wazir too. Not quite sure why it good such crappy reviews. The story was pretty good, and while the ending was a bit predictable there were no dull moments. BigB was awesome. Farhan was pretty shoddy though - had almost the same expression through out - 7.5/10

Oh yea. It did get decent reviews. I was trying to recall what was that aggregator website that someone (you?) had once shared on this forum. This is a good website - I like it
I think anything above 40 is respectable. 60+ is very good probably

Aligarh 8/10
Very well made film, provoking screenplay and outstanding performance by Manoj Bajpaaye, the film has a documentary way of story telling and may feel little slow at times but it is a wonderful movie.
Baaghi 0/10
Worst hindi film i have seen in a while, it is hilarious bad lol, Sabbir Khan should be banned from making films

Those who have seen Baaghi and Heropanti, how is Tiger Shroff. Do you think he will be able to make it.
I have only seen him in the song "Aa Raha Hoon Main Zindagi", he was impressive in that except for some lack of finesse regarding his lip-sync.
Also who among the gen-next actors (made their debut in the last 5 years), male and female, are the ones to look out for.

ujjwala He may be the weakest among the already so weak gen-next actors in terms of acting ability, he is wooden, has no voice modulation whatsoever, cant emote.I guess its good to be the son of a former star. I would say Sushant,Ayushmann and Ranveer are the best among gen-next. AbhiSRKfan I know so unfair

Also who among the gen-next actors (made their debut in the last 5 years), male and female, are the ones to look out for. I have not seen Baaghi but I had seen Heropanti and I think he is not that bad.... He needs to improve a lot in his dialogue delivery, facial expressions and overall acting... But he does have some style, very very fit, Good at action and dance... He will last a while based on this but from then on improvements in acting skills will serve him well.. Some actors get better at it as they work more.. Some never get it.. I am on wait and see mode as far as Tiger is concerned.. I won't write him off at all... For now he is a likable lad.
Among the recent actors there is definitely Ranveer Singh and then the rest... Ranveer seems to have the energy and hunger of a Younger SRK.. Just missing little bit of class and finesse.
Varun Dhawan has displayed good skills in his short filmography as well.
I don't thing Ayushman khurana has much of a future to be honest.. He is a decent actor but just don't see it for him.
Sushant Singh is again a decent actor but I find his acting a little irritating at times .. Seems like he is trying to act like somebody else.. He may develop into something and stay for a while.. but don't see him in the top league anytime soon.
Sidharth Malhotra has had a few good outings.. He has the looks but seems to be lacking charm. I don't see him being a top star anytime soon.
Arjun Kapoor had managed a few hits.. but seems too careless... He can act.. but needs to lose weight, be serious and competitive.
Varun Dhawan and Ranveer Singh are definitely the ones to watch out for in the future... And Ranbir Kapoor still exists

^^Pretty spot on with the analysis
I find Sushant very irritating as well. He was good in Kai Po Che and Shuddh Desi Romance, but doesn't seem to have the charm to hold your attention on screen.
Sid Malhotra was pretty bad in Kapoor and Sons. Got out-acted by every single actor in that movie. Fawad Khan was actually quite impressive
Ranveer has definitely carved out a place for him in Bollywood now and is a cut above the rest - his performance as Bajirao was just mindblowing. Is he the next Khan usurper, only time will tell because the same was said about Hrithik/Shahid/Ranbir - and they all seem to have hit lows.
What happened to Hrithik: His career was on the right track. Overnight superstar. Then did some challenging roles in Mission Kashmir/KMG/Lakshya and got critical acclaim. Krrish/D2 were the peak of his BO prowess. and he has recent hits too - Agneepath, Krrish 3, ZNMD. But somehow he has fallen off the grid, possibly because of the turmoils in his personal life?? Lets see what he serves up with Mohenjo Daro

Neerja - 10/10. Super. Even Sonam was good. Watched Neerja too for me its a 7,5/10 film I found the kidnappers not that convincing (too much overacting) and someone of the passagiers could have used more workshop before casting, otherwise it was a good solid drama, and yes EVEN Sonam was good lol
