Tamasha. 8/10
Loved it, very deep movie and superb performance by Ranbir. Don't understand where all the hate comes from for this movie.

Kapoor and Sons - 7/10
Excellent movie. Great performances from Fawad and Rajat and Ratna Pathak Shah. I agree with the rest of the reviews here - Sid Malhotra was absolutely terrible in the movie. The film had everything going for it, but a couple of things made me rate it far less than what it really should have been. Alia - as luminous as she is and how crazily good she is in whatever she does - should have been in the movie for not more than 10 minutes max. This should have been all about this one dysfunctional family and Alia should have been a side character at best. The writing - starts off great and absolutely never lets go. Every scene adds a little bit more to the film, which is great. But then it slows the heck down towards the pre-climax. Had the pace been maintained throughout, I would have rated it up there with Piku with a 9/10. Nevertheless, terrific film that I may actually watch again. Probably completely skip the whole Sid Malhotra bursting out scene (that was just embarassing, watching furniture pretend to grow a facial muscle).

Airlift 6.5/10 I watched Airlift last night - found it rather HoHum. I don't know anything about the background of the story, so taking it on face value - a bunch of people who are of Indian heritage but consider themselves Kuwaiti find themselves in danger so are surprised that India doesn't rush to repatriate them to India. The Indian government and public service are totally disinterested, bored and self-serving, but finally get them out. This leads to prominent flag waving and some inexplicable patriotism. I didn't get it. I'm sure that the true story must have been more interesting and admirable, but I actually found the film irritating. The hoard of 170,000 looked more like about 200 people, Akshay doesn't seem to be able to modulate his voice or expressions from one film to another, let alone between situations in one film, and some of the dialogue was fake and terrible. I enjoyed Baby more, at least Anupam Kher gave that some endearing moments.

Talvaar - 8/10
Gripping film. Starts off slow, but once it picks up steam, had me glued. Irfan is just crazy good in whatever he does. The editor deserves a lot of praise as well. Good movie.

Sultan - 8/10
Amazing !
Its a simple story but so well-executed, the trailer didn't do justice to the quality of the film at all ! Salman was very good, restrained and in sync with the character, Anushka was very good too.
i have to give credit where credit is due, after Bhaijaan Bajrangi this one is another quality film from Salman.

Tamasha - 8.5/10Yet another "hatke" love story by Imtiaz. The guy really knows how to stitch up a love story without getting too sappy or hammy. The second half is just splendid storytelling and direction. It has issues with pacing at some points. Imtiaz does seem to borrow some ideas/shots from his own movies - An individual's liberation as in Highway - A woman's pining for love as in Jab We Met - The flashback storytelling style as in Love Aaj Kal Performance wise, Deepika is just superb - she keeps getting better and better with each movie. And Ranbir is even better - in YJHD Deepika stole the show from him, but not here. He turns on his acting skills to max in the second half and drives the story single handedly as was required by the Director. It was a difficult role to play and he proved why he is the best in the current generation - only thing, after seeing Fan's multi personality performance by SRK, Ranbir's "similar" performance seems below that standard. The switching between personalities was not as smooth even though the change was not supposed to be drastic here. Still overall a fantastic performance Music and background score fits the movie very well (its ARR after all) and take the story forward too

Another point about Tamasha - I can totally see why the audience rejected this movie. It is not a "happy" movie and really deconstructs both the male and female lead characters in the movie. Especially the "common man" character played by Ranbir where he is stuck in a daily routine against his will.
Why did the critics hate it? Maybe they were expecting something lighter based on the trailers and Ranbir-Deepika playing the lead.

Detective Byomkesh Bakshi - 8/10
Was actually really good. There a few too many red herrings for a thriller, but it all comes down to a great revelation in the end. But the biggest win of the movie is the art and set design. The movie does a fantastic job of transporting you to a different world (a noir, pre-independence Calcutta in this case) and is ably supported by all the actors - esp Sushant Singh Rajput
The songs and the heavy metal background score were a bit distracting though and did not sit well with the atmosphere of the movie.

Sultan: 7.5/10
This is called perfect masala entertainer
I didn't surprised because this one with BB, ce, dabang, RR comes from old school of film making and executed well with latest technology.
Love story, emotion, action, songs with good story of small town people which has everything that common people (including so called intellectual) like to see. No slapstick (shetty/farah//sajid type)comedy, no borrowed scene, no plastic and glossy location (Bulgeria, Europe, Singapore USA) only realistic desi locations, desi language, no pizza, burger,Mercedes BMW (only bajaj chetak, tractor, dhaba etc), and this kind of movies always have audiences in every decade/era whether it sholay in 1975, Karan Arjun in 1995, Gadar in 2000 or dabang, BB, ce or sultan in modern era.

Badlapur 9/10 - Varun and Nawazuddin were fantastic, fell short of 10/10 because of the end portion was confusing. NH10 10/10 - Completely loved this movie, Anushka was fabulous, engaging from start to finish.
Tamasha 8/10 would rate this lower as i watched after the above movies. It was a really well made film, but Ranbir's character came across as confusing in my view. I could understand that on holiday he could pretend to be someone else in contrast to someone stuck in the humdrum of normal life. But how he manages to 'snap out of it' and become the guy Deepika loved didnt really flow.

Finally decided to go ahead and watch Bajirao Mastani as i like the Ranveer- Deepika pairing in Ram Leela. Visually the movie is stunning, especially the gold room where Deewani Mastani is filmed. The costumes were lovely too. I only actually like the Malhari and Deewani Mastani songs, ended up fast forwarding Pinga as i dont like that song at all. Too much of a dola re dola hangover. Performance wise, i was mighty impressed with Ranveer he was very good, Deepika was good as usual and Priyanka i felt was actually better than Deepika.
The problem was that despite my best efforts, i didnt actually like the film. It was beautifully made albeit pretty boring. Actually much preferred Ram Leela, the lead pair's chemistry was much more electric, i didnt really see it here. The had the same doe eyed, water in their eyes expression every time they looked at each other. Much too repetitive. Felt more for Kashibai. Very disappointed.

Raman Raghav 2.0 - 4/10.
Quite a bad movie. Such a dull movie is not expected from Anurag Kashyap.

Airlift - 7/10
Very good film. Akshay Kumar is solid and so are some side characters, including Purab Kohli. But Nimrat Kaur is kinda mundane and a couple of other characters are just plain badly written. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed the film. While this is not as great as Argo was - Argo had a lot more twists and turns and drama but this film tries to lean as much toward straight-up documentary territory as it does towards the bollywood drama side. Excellent film, I just wish this was a songless one. Terrible songs and absolutely TERRIBLE placements.

Just watched Akira yesterday. Couldn't really engross myself in the movie. It turned out to be a bit too dark for my liking. I actually preferred Anurag Kashyap's performance more than Sonakshi. There was no sign of the song Rajj Rajj Ke which was my favourite from the film, not even in the end credits.

The Lunchbox - 5/10
Apart from the performances of Irfan and Nawazuddin, I was not really impressed by much else honestly. I found it slow in parts. Perhaps it was the hype that killed it for me.

M. S. Dhoni - 8/10
I had a blast watching this movie. So engaging. I think I have a little crush on SSR. lol! he was so very good.
The romantic tracks could've been edited out to make it shorter though.

Saw Dhoni, I really liked it. I have just one small issue {Spoiler} Why didn't they have a moment in the film where he was chosen as captain.

Saw Dhoni as well. It was actually very very good. Not without flaws, but it managed to capture Dhoni and his Dhoni-ness very well. Sushant was amazing as Dhoni - nailed the mannerism, the batting style and stance to perfection. The Wankhede scenes were chilling and the attention to detail in general was just amazing Even the support cast was very good. It could have been a bit shorter though - the songs were pointless. Could have easily shaved 15-20 minutes off it. But I guess it made it more relatable for a wider audience The CGI was great at some points and very jarring and weird at others I wish: - They covered a bit more of his downtime once he became popular. They only skimmed over it - After focusing so much on his keeping and cricketing acumen with kid Dhoni, they totally ignored these aspects of his game when he actually got selected for the national team

Saw the MS Dhoni film too. Very good. Really engrossing and interesting and not a dull moment which is admirable given the 3 hour running time.
From a cricketing & biopic point of view, you could argue the second half could have spent much less time on dhoni's love stories and more on him as a cricketer (e.g. his captaincy, dressing room stories and controversies etc).

Rather enjoyed this film to my own surprise. Katrina and Sid looked really cute together. Songs were fab. Unlike what some critics said, I didn't find the going back and forward in time confusing at all.

Too slow. It seemed a waste of Amitabh's talent, he just did not have enough to do. Angad Bedi and Tapsee Pannu are remarkably good. But I just loved Bachchan's "I object to this awkward performance, overacting"! LOL

This film is like an expired product, the awful screenplay, the amateurish editing i just couldn't take it. This one is up there with KJo's worst directed films together with SOTY and MNIK.

This one is up there with KJo's worst directed films together with SOTY and MNIK. I actually liked MNIK (despite the messy second half) but agree about SOTY and ADHM, seems like Karan has lost his touch. His best are still KKHH and K3G by far which are among my favourite SRK movies.
