From 2012, did anyone see Delhi In A Day?, starring Anjali Patil. I think I noticed a picture of Shah Rukh's on the wall of her room at the very end. It's just a bit out of focus so I'm not 100% sure

Tum Bin 2 - 2/10
Its so bad i don't even know what to say ??? I really loved Tum Bin (2001) but this one is so embarrassing badly directed so badly acted, you have literally people staring at the camera in a middle of a scene ! i am not kidding ! some of them would stop and stare directly at the scene being shot LOL
The correct rating should be 0/10 if it wasn't for the soundtrack

Finally got round to watching Baahubali. Thought it was fantastic and one of the best films ive ever seen. Regret not having seen it earlier, but i was putting it off as i had never seen a dubbed film. The battle scenes were absolutely epic, the weapons and fight scenes were very engrossing. Looking forward to seeing part two now. Only qualm, is that i had trouble following the storyline and the characters.

Has anyone seen Rangoon? I thought it looked sort of interesting on the trailer I saw with Raees but it has totally tanked at the BO. This compared to Jolly LLB2 which has done well but looked to me like formulaic rubbish from the preview.

I am yet to watch Rangoon but the trailers looked more like a low budget telenovela than a period drama, LLB2 on the other hand was quite a enjoyable film with honest performances and decent plot line.

Badri ki Dulhania - 7/10
Was a lot of fun with a well served social message without getting preachy. First half was fantastic actually. The second half is a bit inconsistent but it did not harm the movie overall.
Alia was amazing as always. Varun started off as very loud but had some effective scenes in the second half. Dude is becoming more dependable than Sid

I have seen it twice and I love it! Surpassed all expectations. There was much laughter, a few tears when Shashi went to meet Anu first time. I don't know how much I can say as there maybe people who haven't seen it yet. Also, I am not good at giving reviews, not like you guys do. I can only tell you whether I like a film, or not. I loved it. I am going to definitely see it again. As usual the visuals are stunning, set locations, wardrobe, etc. I liked all the songs. I watched the last 20 minutes with a smile from ear to ear and tears rolling down my face. I had same reaction the 2nd time I saw the film. Beautiful love stories, there were 2. I like it better than Ghost. Film has many more layers than Ghost. The story is beautiful, nice special effects but Anushka Sharma ties it all together. It works because she has great acting abilities, she's beautiful and she has a killer likeability (I don't think it's real word) factor. She's awesome. Also, added bonus for me, I learned a little more of India's history. Very poignant historical incident.

I loved Badrinath. We were at the cinema to watch Logan and after that decided to catch this for time pass. Loved Varun's and Alai's natural acting. It's been awhile I truly enjoyed a bollywood movie. First half was really entertaining. Movie has flaws in the second half. but we were able to feel the characters. That actually happened after long time for a bollywood movie. Glad we caught the movie.

Kaabil - 7/10
This was actually very good. Perhaps my expectations were low. But Hrithik just blew me away. In the first half, there were a LOT of Aamir hangover in his performance, but he is brilliant in the movie. I am not a big Hrithik fan, mostly because he comes across as very rehearsed in most films, but he was very very good here.

MS Dhoni - The Untold Story - 9/10
As good as Shahrukh Khan was in FAN, this performance from Sushant Singh Rajput is almost up there with it. I am such a fan now. Not sure what Ranbir can do with playing Sanjay Dutt, but I doubt anyone can better this. This is almost a flawless performance from Sushant. If it weren't for Aryan Khanna, I would have said give this guy every award in town, and more. Blown away.

Finally watched Pink. Can someone enlighten me how Amitabh Bachchan's performance was considered the best of the year? I waited till the last hoping that "now" would be the sequence / scene that makes this performance special, but it was a routine disinterested performance from him - he does several of those nowadays.

Jolly LLB 2
Didn't really like this film. Found it to be way too over the top, even ridiculous, especially the court room scenes. Felt no compassion for Akshay's character, partly, because of what he did to the woman who played SRK's secretary in Fan (cant remember her name). I was very detached from this film, a common problem that i generally have with Akshay's films. I dont feel a connect with his characters, so i felt like i was watching the film at home. Usually with a film i like, i become engrossed, as if i am there in the film and watching as a bystander. I personally liked the first Jolly marginally better.

I started watching Rustom last night. Halfway through
I know National Awards were a joke since Saif got it for Hum Tum, but even then, Akshay getting ANY award for this role is hilarious. He is so bad right from the beginning. The only redeeming factor is, that he is better than the expression less actresses. It feels like everyone is just working so hard to be bad at acting. The first 5-10 minutes of the movie are supposed to fast paced and intense, but they almost feel comical. No connection established with the characters.
I am in two minds on whether to finish the movie or not. I think I will still give it a chance, in the hopes that the story will somehow get better and a bit more engaging

Watched Jolly LLB 2 last night.
I seriously don't get it. This is yet another Akshay movie that seems like it is a clip show assembled together in a rush. Akshay's acting in serious scenes is laughable, though his comic timing is still intact. And the court scenes are really dumb. The basis on which the case concludes makes no sense. But I guess, since the topic is about corruption and patriotism we ought to lap it up without any qualms.
Jolly LLB 1 was much better both as a movie and performance wise.
IF he is winning national awards for these kind of performances, then Arjun Rampal and Saif totally deserved their awards too

Worst female performance of the decade ? Shraddha is so bad in this one that she transformed what supposed to be a drama in to a comedy

Why do we need so many films about gangsters/criminals/murderers and need to know their story, I am also supposed to feel bad for them along way. Is there a dearth of people who have achieved something the right way. I am so looking forward to Padman, irrespective of how good or bad the film will be alteast its a story inspired by a man who made a real difference regarding an issue he did not even need to be concerned with. We have so many people who make an actual difference but their life is not interesting enough for filmmakers I guess.

Padman - 8/10
Fantastic movie about an inspirational man. -2 for a couple of unneeded songs and an unneeded subplot.
One of the few popular Akshay movies that I really loved. The last two that I watched, Rustom and Jolly LLB were poor, but this one really made of for them. The topic of menstrual hygiene has been tackled very well, covering the taboo aspect of it in our society and going ahead to normalize it.

Watched 2 amazing movies last week - very different from each other, but both depicting how good Bollywood can be when it wants to Manto - 9/10
A biopic on Saadat Hassan Manto with Nawazuddin playing Manto. Its a movie set in pre/post independence time, and yet it felt so relevant today. Covering themes of women's plight, censorship and freedom of speech it really struck a chord with me. The acting was top-notch by Nawaz and the supporting actors. The dialogues were really hard hitting and some of them were pure gems. One such dialogue was set in partition days - *SPOILER*Manto is in a car with a young Ashok Kumar (the late actor) and they are passing by a Muslim neighborhood and Manto despite all his free-thinking gets scared for Ashok Kumar when faced with a mob. But the mob simply embraces Ashok Kumar with open arms and Manto realizes that he let fear get the better of him and change him. Then he shows his wife how he has one Muslim cap and one Hindu cap for when he is travelling and says --
Jab Mazhab dil se utar kar sar par chadh jaaye, toh topiyan lagani padti hai
When your religion leaves your heart and gets to your head, then you have to wear a cap to control it

The second movie, Andhadhun - 9.5/10
SriRam Raghavan really knows how to deliver a tight thriller. And he outdid himself with this one. This has to be one of the best dark comedy thrillers I have seen in a while - from Bollywood or Hollywood. The script, the storytelling, the dialogues, the direction .. everything is par excellence
The less you know about this movie, the more you will enjoy it. Already watched it twice

boxofficeindia.com/report-details.php?articleid=4455This article by BOI has fired major holes in BOI's theory that only mass-connect movies should be made because the urban based and multiplex audience specific movies don't contribute much to Indian cinema money wise. The big movies have bombed and still this year is trending better than last year on the back of 'smaller' movies. In this article they go on to say that the movies are padded with music making them bigger hits than required - but thats utter rubbish. What about movies like Raazi and Andhadhun - they did not have a single "chartbuster" song. Even Stree and Badhaai Ho albums were average.

Anyone looking forward to Kedarnath?
Trailer and songs have been quite good. Sara Ali Khan looks like she is going to be one of those rare products of nepotism who has talent as well

I am sure I will watch it because I don't miss many movies in theatre for the last 8 years or so. Unless I am unwell, I watch at least one movie every weekend. I would have watched close to 60 movies only from bollywood this year.Wow. I envy you Its been some time since I watched one movie every weekend. I would still love to do that if I could. But somehow it just doesnt happen anymore

Watched two movies recently
Tumbbad - 8.5/10 Really amazing movie. Super story, script, direction and performances. It is listed in the horror genre, but it was only mildly scary. But the story was wonderful though - a story of greed spanning over 3 generations.
Kedarnath - 7/10 Was actually a very decent flick. Nothing path breaking, but had a good romantic tale leading to the disaster of Kedarnath in the climax. More than anything else, it announced the arrival of yet another star kid - Sara. But she definitely has the acting chops to go ahead. She owned every frame and easily out performed Sushant in this role, who played his character well but was a bit too subdued. And the people finding it offensive - I dont know what is it that was so offensive. Its not like this is the first time a Hindu-Muslim love story has been shown on the screen. And the disaster was also handled very well

Finally watched Newton last night. Rajkumar Rao is just brilliant as the honest and eager yet pompous and naive election officer. His earnestness to carry out elections in the most adverse situations is likable and at the same time makes you uncomfortable. Pankaj Tripathi was the show stealer in the screen time he had. This man is brilliant. Movie overall was excellent. The handling of such a heavy topic in a not so heavy handed manner is amazing.
9/10
Also watched Mulk last week. Another good movie to come last year. The performances were superb, and the direction was surprisingly good considering it was Anubhav Sinha at the helm. A couple of dialogues were very hard hitting and stayed with me post the movie as well. One of the better courtoom dramas to come out of Bollywood (the last one, Jolly LLB 2 was just horrible)
7.5/10
